I have an interview next week...possibly a career change, which I really don't want to screw up. Now I am getting married in 1 1/2 months and am going on my honeymoon for one week...
SO, at the interview what do I say and when do I say it? Ideally, I'd love to stay here and use my vacation time, but I don't know if the new place will want to do that (if I get a job).
Or, do I start right away if it's offered to me and say screw it? Then I chance them saying, you want 2 weeks off already. What to do? What do you think most employers would negotiate?

Re: Anyone get a new job near your wedding?
If they make you an offer, only at that point you would let them know about your wedding. A lot of places are willing to make exceptions for the right candidate. Depends on how much you want the job, but if you are not willing to take your vacation days in advance (or if they don't allow that) you could offer to take it unpaid.
Good luck!

I wouldn't bring this up during an interview. If you're offered the job, then I would mention it. I started a new job about 5 months ago and before I accepted the offer, I told them that I was getting married and would need about 2 1/2 weeks off and wanted to be sure that was okay before I left my last position.

i would say, get the offer, in writing, and then when you are negotiating salary, vacation time and all that jazz, you bring it up
i wouldn't bring it up on the first interview

Ok. Now would you personally try to negotiate a later start date so that you can use your paid vacation time at your current employer? Or just say you will start whenever they want and mention that you will need the unpaid time off.

Ok. That won't look shady of me to do?

i don't think that is shady, but at the very least
i agree with the others and say that you should not resign from your other job till you have discussed the honeymoon thing with the new place and they are cool with it

I did. I was completely up front. I don't think an employer would be turned off by a 1 week vacation if the future employee was a perfect fit.

Re: Anyone get a new job near your wedding?
Thanks for the advice.
I would NEVER quit without having it on paper. I literally can't risk no paycheck.
Now...say on Monday at the interview they say, when would you be able to start if we offered you a position? Then what?

Re: Anyone get a new job near your wedding?
I would tell then then, if they asked when you can start. DH started a new job in late June & we were getting married in early October. I think we waited to book our HM, to ee if he got the job & what they said, b/c it was a career change for him & if it meant we had to postpone our HM, we would have.
But he told them, I think when they were telling him salary & benefits & they told him it would be ok--but he only took 6 days off.
Another friend of mine swithced jobs closer to his wedding & told then upfront & they were ok with it, but it was also just a week & a day or 2.

I would jsuttell thennew place after you get an offer & let them chose- if they'd rather have you start later or start, & take off. It may depend on what type of training is involved for teh job too.

On the phone she asked if I'd be able to do an 8 day orientation training, if offered a position. I said yes. I'm assuming that is 8 days before I start the position.
