ok, i admit it, i'm a peeker. i was looking at my bed bath and beyond registry last night, and there were 2 items purchased for me that i didn't register for!! mind you, there are still TONS of items on my registry that i actually DID register for.
at first i thought it might be a price thing, but in looking over the registry, there are plenty of items in the price range of the unregistered items. i am puzzled.
can anyone even fathom what these people were thinking? am i missing something? has this happened to anyone?

Re: anyone get gifts that weren't on your registry?
We got a lot of crap that wasn't on the registry. We got a lot of towels that we didn't need nor wanted. However, most people bought them from the smae place we registered so we were able to return them for credit for stuff we did want. But a couple people bought us old navy towles or something so we are stuck with those. I appreciated the gifts, but just wish people would do what theyare supposed to and buy from the reigstry.

Cause I've already had my shower last week.
EDIT: Wait a minute. How do you know that there were items purchased for you that were not on your registry? There is not way to check that, is there?

right! i just don't understand people going to the place you registered at, and buying something that's NOT on the registry. it makes absolutely no sense. i mean, i totally appreciate the gift - it's not about that - it's just that if i needed it, i would have registered for it.
people are so strange.

know how on registries there is a 'requested' column and a 'purchased' column? well, for these items it says 'requested - 0' and 'purchased - 1'.
do you think it's a mistake? maybe i should call them and see what the deal is.
ETA: called bb&b. they said that either 1) the buyer gave the cashier my registry so that the purchased items could be scanned onto it, or 2) the cashier didn't separate purchases for my registry from the buyer's personal purchases, so the unregistered items really aren't for me.
guess i'll find out at my shower

I agree with you guys. I have a friend that already told me that she doesn't always go off the registry because she thinks what they picked is ugly or not her taste and for mine she was going to deviate because she wanted to get something more unique and personal. I sat her down and reminded her how extremely picky both myself and FH are and to please feel free to get us something personal but something small....not something big and to PLEASE stay on our registry for things of a house nature. It took a little convincing and she still tells me how dissapointed (in a joking fashion) she is but understands.
I love that she wants to do something different that is one of the reasons she is so special to me and a good friend but we all have such different tastes and if she spent so much time and effort to pick out something special and either myself or FH really don't like it then I feel like it will hurt her. Everyone's tastes are different, hers are a bit more on the very essentric side where as mine are very subdued and simple.
Sometimes people just go off the registry to be different and get you something special.

i still think it's best to stay within a registry, but i can understand people straying for the sake of getting something more unique - especially if that person knows you extremely well. i'm sort of hoping my sister does that
in this particular case, one of the items bought was a mini-salad spinner. i registered for a regular-sized one, which was already bought weeks ago! so i'm not sure why someone would buy me another. the other item was a mini-cuisinart, which i didn't register for cause i got one for my engagement. the more i think about it, the more i think it must have been someone's personal purchases that got mistakenly added onto the registry...

Not to sound like a bridezilla, but I don't understand why people stray from the registry. I know when I have to buy a gift for someone it helps if there is a registry. I just don't get it!

You are probably seeing things 'added' to your registry because someone might have bought that item for themselves and its on the same receipt that they bought your items on. This makes the item appear on your registry for some reason.

This happened to a coworker of mine. The bride was peeking at her registry at BB&B and there were items like a Snickers Bar and these horrible hot pink curtains on it but she never registered for this stuff.

Okay, it's one thing to stray from the registry and get something special for the couple - great, i can so appreciuate that.
It's totally something different to see a couple is registered for Ralph Lauren towels, and then pick out completely different towels in a different color from the SAME STORE. This happened to my sister. I think THAT is rude - although I think people that do things like that are mostly just clueless.

what might've happened, when the purchase was made, they could've bought something else besides the shower gift. for some reason it goes on the registry

happens all the time. My friends got tons of frames.
I understand if the guest is close to you and knows of something you would like but you just did not register for it. So far people are purchasing the same thing for us. Its like, um, hello, there are other iteams. We really don't need anymore glasses here.

I did but 99% of them were AWESOME gifts so it was fine by me I got three spa gift certificates, these awesome comfy bathrobes with our names on them and the tuperware spin holder thing that they advertise on tv. Oh, and lots and lots of lingerie
I did get one HORRIFIC looking platter and bowl set . Still haven't found time to return that but I need to do it soon.

If something shows up on the list but says requested zero, I'm betting these guests are just not reading all that carefully and see that it's on the list and figure they're safe.

Re: anyone get gifts that weren't on your registry?
A close friend is going to a bridal shower tonight and didn't make her purchase from the registry. She, however, had a wonderful reason to stray.
The bride is from a terribly wealthy family (I'm talking multi-millionaires). Her registry doesn't have anything under $500 on it. Oh wait, that's not entirely true. She did register for crystal. Each glass is $120. My friend refused to show up at the shower with one glass. I was surprised she didn't decide to splurge on the $1,975 vase on the bride's registry!
In cases like the aforementioned, it's understandable that someone would stray. Aside from that, stick to what the bride and groom actually want :)

I always think that a registry is a guideline...no one HAS to buy you what you pt on it. Some people set their minds on buying certain things and maybe its not what you ordered. Usualy they give gift receipts, if you dont like it return it, otherwise exchange it! Its not the end of the world lol

I got a Tiffany silver BREAD knife..
whatever-- I probably should have returned it- but we used it.. Figure we can use it for the J-holidays with cutting the challah and stuff..
Also- I know for my shower- which is next week- a lot of people have wanted to get something for *me* and not a registry item.. although we are encouraging gifts off the registry.

Re: anyone get gifts that weren't on your registry?
My co-worker's FSIL made a very rude comment about her registry. She told her that she 'really needs to register for better quality items.' She followed that up by saying, 'well if you leave it, I'll just buy things I think you should've registered for.'
