If so, where did you get it done and how much? I want to do it for my wedding, but I am really nervous about it.

I didnt get it done, a girl who i worked with got it done. She said it takes about 5 hours to do and you cant wash your hair for 3 days. I think she paid about $300 for it.

I have gotten it done. I did it for the first time last summer and just actually had it re-done a couple of days ago. You can't wash your hair for 2 days after you have it done. I paid about $600 after tips, but my hair is really long. There are places all over that do it for cheaper, but I went to someone I was referred too. It is the best thing I have ever done! Huge huge fan!!

It is by far the best money I have ever spent! it used to take me 45 minutes to get my hair pin straight and that was after blowing it out then using a flat iron. I now leave the house with my hair soaking wet and it dries pin straight. And when I do blow it, i don't need a brush, I use my fingers. Prices vary, it toally depends on the person who does it, my best friend had it done in the city for $1,000 and mine came out better.

This sounds so cool. I have never heard of it before. What exactly do they do to straighten it. I would love to leave the house with a wet head and not have to worry about it curling up. How long does it last? How long does it take to do? Sounds Cool.

What if you have thin hair though?

Does it break you hair all off?

I relax mine, it is strighter but by no means straight. I still need to blow dry it with a round brush, it just takes less effort (and it's only $60). I would be afraid to do that treatment b/c I also color it and it is very dry.

I know someone who had their hair straightened (don't think it was that way) and she had to cut it ALL off

Well it is like a 5-6 hour process depending on how long/thick your hair is and if the chemical takes right away.

First they wash your hair, then put a protein treatment in it to make it really really shiney and soft. Literally like a Japanese person's hair.

Second they put in the straightener. The straightener can't touch your scalp or your hair will fall out, that is how strong this stuff is. The person doing it knows this so usually works about a half inch to an inch from your scalp down. Once the straightener is in, you sit under heat for about half an hour-1 hour. Now with my hair I had to sit under there longer cause the chemical wasn't taking since my hair is so curly. So I was under the heat for about an hour and a half.

Then they rinse that out of your hair and they start flat ironing your hair piece by piece until it is perfect.

Then a neutralizer is put on over your perfectly straight hair. You sit with the neutralizer for about 15 minutes and get it rinsed out.

Voila! Your hair air-dries shiney, soft and PIN straight!

Do you have thick or thin hair?

Do you then have a lot of breakage?

Re: Anyone had that Japanese hair straightning done?

I had to go in for a consultation first, and the woman told me no problem. I have used regular relaxers before, so I feel your pain, it is nothing compared to this! The first time I had it done I was literally in shock when I saw how gorg it made my hair.

I think it all depends on the person who does it. If you go to someone who knows what they are doing your hair won't fall off.

I know with highlights an extra step needs to be added. They need to put something on your highlights to protect them. My hair isn't dyed so that wasn't an issue for me.

As far as thin hair? My hair was thick, and the treatment, since it made my hair so silky straight, it feels much thinner, but nothing too bad.

My advise if you are totally serious about doing it is to go for a consult first and to someone who you have heard good things about. If they will know what they are doing you are in good hands.

How long does it last for?

I do not have breakage.

I also forgot to add that all my fly aways are gone! the chemical pulls the cuticle of your hair together, so all frizzy little pieces disappear.

My Sil had it done a week before my wedding. She loved it, but then started to notice all of her hair breaking off at the roots. She called the salon where she had it done, and also mailed them pics of her hair and they sent her a full refund. Be careful with this stuff. It could damage your hair. But it may depend on the hair type you have.

Re: Anyone had that Japanese hair straightning done?

Depending on how fast your hair grows. It should last about 5-6 months. My hair grows fast. The hair that the chemical is placed on will NEVER be curly again. Basically you just have re-growth. So the hair that grows in will be curly but the hair that had the treatment will remain straight. I was nervous about this, but it didn't look as bad as I thought it would.

I will tell you this...if you like your hair curly, I wouldn't recommend it. unless you are planning on cutting all yoru hair off once you have re-growth because the bottom of your hair will be straight, you see what I mean?

I did it about a year ago and just re-did it again for the summer. Aparently a lot of people do that because of the expense and there is no humidity in the winter, so less frizz when drying yourself.

Nanjoe- I have heard of this happening. Again, i think it all depends on where you go. That is why as much as my pocket hates me for spending that kind of money, I know I am getting a job well done. How is your sil's hair now?

Re: Anyone had that Japanese hair straightning done?

Kim, where did you have this done?

I'm afraid b/c I color AND I have very thin hair. If you look at my profile, that is what the relaxing does for me. I really have really kincky curly hair. B/c my hair is so thin it is very easy to straighten everyday. I hardly ever use the iron (excpet on occasions) and it only takes about 10 minutes do. Once I hit humidity though -BAM it's frizzy (better when I have it relaxed) but even from relaxing I can see some breakage and some hair comes out.

I may want to check this out but I'm a bit afraid before the wedding I know my hair girl would say NO WAY

(thanks for all the info )
