Re: Anyone had that Japanese hair straightning done?
Kim...Her hair is still bad. It's been about 8 weeks and she has to wait until it grows back...could be a while. She is wearing real hair pieces to cover up the growth on top. it looks like she has a crew cut all the way down the middle of her head. It's bad, but thank God for hair pieces. You can't tell that they are fake.

Re: Anyone had that Japanese hair straightning done?
oh my, thats really scary. My hair lady was actually telling me that that could happen from the way they iron the hair. if the iron is too hot and they don't go down the cuticle fast enough it can burn off.
I am sorry she didn't have a good experiance.

Re: Anyone had that Japanese hair straightning done?
Kim thanks for all your info on this. I am so curious about doing it but my 2 fears are (1) my hair is really thin and I am afraid it may look lifeless and (2) how will the regrowth look. I guess I am not sure I could justify spending the money right now and I wouldn't want to go to a cheap place for fear it won't be as good or a bad experience.
My friend's friend had it done and she loved it (she a newscaster - so she needed it for when she is out in the field reporting on stuff in the humid/rainy weather) but her hair is much different in texture than mine.
Thanks for the info.

Re: Anyone had that Japanese hair straightning done?
This topic has been posted once before, if you do a search, you'll find it. I get chemical straightening done but my hair is still curly, just loose curls. I love it, and it has made a huge difference for me. The woman I've gone to for 10 years does the japanese too, but its expensive, @ $800 I think, but she is excellent & I would recommend her highly.

Re: Anyone had that Japanese hair straightning done?
My sister goes to a Japanese salon (Salon Ishi) in NYC and pays close to $1000.
BTW, her hair does not air-dry pin straight. She has slight waves in it. I guess it depends on how curly your hair is naturally. Her hair does look very healthy though and it doesn't take as long to blow it out. I believe she's able to do it with her fingers.
Edited to say: she used to do chemical straightening and TR wins hands down. I've also had chemical straightening done and I vowed never to do it again.

Re: Anyone had that Japanese hair straightning done?
My sister is a very good stylist in Madison, NJ..has nice clientele and they wont do the Japanese Straightening because it is very damaging IF you have had color, etc. on your hair.Apparantly awhile back people sued over their hair getting fried at another salon, so not alot of salons do it. I had read about it and wanted it, I have curly hair which I blow out straight alot, and I thought about getting the Japanese strsightening as well..but I have alot fo color on my hair, so for ME it wouldnt be good. If you have whats called ' virgin hair' then supposeldy it will work great, it just depends on the person. I will most likely have a flat iron put to to my hair for the wedding, that usually stays. If you have an iron, the gold plated ones work much better. I am not a stylist, but like I said , my sister is and Im just going by what her salon does and its a really nice salon. I hope that helps somewhat.

Re: Anyone had that Japanese hair straightning done?
see, i have 'virgin hair'..lol, so it worked really well on my hair. My hair is so curly that I had to sit double the time with the chemical in my hair, but my hair lady also commented that I have very healthy strong hair, so that could be why. I took the chance and love the results, but I do understand it isn't for everyone.

Re: Anyone had that Japanese hair straightning done?
Hi I have done Japanese Straightings at my hair salon. So I will tell you what I think you need to know so here goes:
If you have heavy highlighted hair personally I don't think that its a good idea. If your hair is just has a single process or just a few highlights it will work fine. tThe product will not burn your scalp or your hair off! I have never seen this happen. If the procedure is done improperly than yes damage will occur to your hair and scalp. The whole straighting takes about 3-4 hours. The cost ranges I have heard salons that charge 250 and others that charge 1000. Where I work price starts at 450.
First step is done on clean washed damp hair. It usually stays on for 10-25 min. Second step your hair is blown completly dry. Third step flat iron (this is what takes the longest). Fourth step neutralizer which stays on for about 10 min. Than I strongly suggest that a trim is done and that you have your hair blown out completly straight. You cannot wash your hair for 3 days. no clips, pony tails, and try not to tuck your hair behind your ear for 3 days Your hair will be healthier and it will be silky smooth if done properly. Also some people with extremly curly hair might have to blow dry it to have it be completly straight. Some people don't get wash and go results. I hope that this all helps.
