Anyone have a really fat cat?

Anyone have a really fat cat?

I have two cats who eat the same thing and one is huge and the other is a tiny little thing. My fat cat is always whining and begging for and won't leave you alone when your eating...I swear she is worse than a dog...I want to try and put her on some kind of a diet but I'm not sure how to go about doing it....Anyone in a similiar situation?

Re: Anyone have a really fat cat?

My cat begs all the time but she is not fat she is only 6 lbs.

My Mom has 2 cats (litter brothers) one is lean and slick and the other is 26lbs he is part mancoon (sp?) and yes, mental, that is his name, will sometimes beg and does have a tendency to eat his brother's food. But the vet said that he is healthy. That he is a very large cat (height and weight) he runs constantly and is playful. My Mom tried to put Mental on a diet but it didn't work. He is not supposed to be the same size as Wacko (he is not mancoon) so she gave up. She doesn't overly feed him and as long as he is happy and playful she is leaving him be.

I don't know if any of this makes sense. My mind is mush.

My mom's cat is heavy.... at her last vet visit she was 13lbs (I think) and the vet told my mom the cat needs to be put on a diet

lol I dont think my cat is fat but everyone else seems to think so... my cat is the same way, everytime I get up to go to the kitchen she runs after me and waits until she gets something... so what I am trying to do is give her smaller portions of everything (she used to eat one bag of whiskers plus her dry food, now I try to give her smaller portions so the bag lasts more than 1 day) I dont know she just seems to be hungry all the time

My cat is a fat bast@rd! he's 18.5 pounds.. the vet yells at us all the time, but it wasn't our fault- we resuced him from NSAL and he was that heavy- he's a big fat boy & he has breathing problems b/c of his weight. We have him on diet food- but he never drops any tonage.. he's just a fat fat boy.
but we love him anyway :)

What are you currently feeding your cat?

Whenever our cat starts to get chunky, we put him on Iams r/d (restricted calorie diet)...once he reaches his ideal weight, we switch him back to Iams optimum weight control.

These are all precription diets...I think they're only avaible at the vets. office, but I'm not sure.

My baby is a BIG boy. He is 2 1/2 and weighs in at 15lbs. But he is very long too. We have him on the iams weight control. My other baby girl is 12 and weighs in at about 11lbs. She is a little peanut compared to him!

Here's a pic of the baby...
ETA - He sleeps like this all the time and snores really loud!

My cat isn't fat - I haven't weighed him but he doesn't feel to heavy. Although he is constantly begging for food, he's such a pain in the arse, but we love him just the same.

I'm pretty sure you can check your cats 'weight' by pressing his sides..you should be able to feel his ribs...not to the point where the ribs are sticking out..but if you have to really press hard to feel them, then his chunky.

(Make sure your cat is standing on all fours when you do this).

Re: Anyone have a really fat cat?

My cat was getting really thin because he was sick, which was scaring me...he was down to 8 1/2 pounds....but i weighed him the other day...and he's up to 10 pounds again, which is his normal weight!!! aya!

My mother in law has the fattest cat i've ever seen....she's about two years old and not very big, as far as her body length...but my goodness...she's got round little body. when she runs, you can see her belly wagging under her body...and she's very shy, so i think she might be self concious about her weight

OMG I thought that cats that weighed over 10 pounds was a fluke but it seems to be common.
Perhaps its not just food but simply genetic make up sort of like humans that make them overweight.

Yep mine is about 15 lbs and his stomach swings from side to side when he walks

The other one is about 10 and significantly smaller ....just tinier in general.

I feed both cat wet food in the morning (typically whatver is on sale) and Iams dry food in the evening....Maybe I should get Iams wet too. Its just weird that one cat is like 8 1/2 lbs and the other is double the size...I guess I should take her to the doctor to be checked out!

Re: Anyone have a really fat cat?

Maybe you should eliminate the wet food entirely (that can def. add the lbs)

Also see if he has a thyroid condition, that could be a reason for being plump.

One of my cats isn't that fat, but she should be. She eats ALL of the time! She isn't fat all over, but she does have a bit of a gut.

Mine too! We have 3, two are skinny, ones huge, but the big one is half Maine Coon so naturally bigger then the rest....Dr ( vet) said purina one is the best for all cats thats not 'name brand' cat food ....
