Anyone have a Time Share?

Do you think it's a good investement or a waste of money? I saw some really inexpensive ones for RED week and the maint was low. I was thinkong about buying one. The summer house I have is really nice, but it's more of a family type of place, somewhere to bring the chhildren we will someday have.

I do, in Aruba! Bought it on our honeymoon. Think it is a great investment that forces you on vacation every year. Your maintenance fees could go up every year, mine aren't pricey NOW. My friend's parents pay almost $1000 for their fees down in Orlando, maybe because it is Orlando though. If you have any questions, ask away!

My parents have one, which I am slowly taking over!!

I LOVE it, and I think depending on the one you get, it's an EXCELLENT investment. My parents own theirs forever, and can will it to their children after they are gone. my sister is using it for her honeymoon, and is going to Hawaii for 2 weeks for almost no $$, and staying at a 5 star hotel!! (JEALOUS ME! )

Patrick and I are going to look into buying one in the same place as my parents (West Palm Beach) in February.

My sister had 3. We are most likely going to buy 1 from them. They also have them forever, which is great. They have had them for years and they LOVE it. I think it is a great investment. Not only do you have it forever, they are like condo's, so when you go away you can do some meals in your unit, which saves $$$ on food. We have always had a great experience when we have gone with them!

We have a disney one and love the idea of having it. It's new so we still have mortgage payments but we look at it as prepaying our some of our vacations for the next 40 years. I think it's an investment and we are considering getting one with one of the major hotel chains for added flexibility.

I also own one In Aruba. I think its a good investment. I can use mine anywhere, like most can, (Domin. Republic, ST Thomas etc etc).

My parents own time share with Marriott in Orlando. They love it and they're actually looking into buying more time. We all love it so much. It gets kind of complicated with points and exchanging, but I think its definitely a great investment.

Some timeshares use points, some do not, mine doesn't so it is pretty complicated-free!!

my parents have one too, based in Aruba and can go anywhere. they say if you own a popular week, its hard sometimes to get the place you want without booking really far in advance. also, if you want to go anywhere like europe, there is no place offered in the city centers-- all outside the city (think of vacationing in NYC but your hotel is on Long Island or in NJ)... just some things to consider!

Wow - I didn't know so many people have them...and that they were such a great deal.

Where do you got to buy one? How do you know if it is a good one or not? Lastly, how much do they cost?

Re: Care to share info?

I would stick to a well known name if I was to purchase my own time share. That way you don't run the risk of 'Joe Schmoe's Time Share company' just dissapearing from the face of the earth. I feel that with Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt... you're pretty much guaranteed to be problem free since they are well known.
As for how much they cost, it depends on how much time you purchase per year, the type of space you're purchasing, the location... I believe that around $10,000 is a pretty good ball park figure. Don't forget about annual maintenece fees that go along with it though.
There are ways to stretch your time. It is really complicated, but if you want more info FM me.
