I am NOT a 'dog person.' I have a parrot. LOL I had been secretly toying with the idea of buying FH a pet for a wedding present... he loves dogs and cats even more, but I hate cats. LOL I thought I had talked myself out of the idea of buying a pet until.........
Today on 40th and Broadway I FELL IN LOVE with this tiny Yorkie that a woman was walking around with. I never ever get like this about dogs!!!!!!!!! It was SOOOO CUTE AND LITTLE!!!!
I did some research on them and they are good for people with allergies (us) and are really friendly dogs. I also love that they are small, since we live in an apartment.
There is a breeder right here in Brooklyn my friend recommended. I already contacted them... I am kind of getting excited about the idea. Does anyone have a Yorkie???

Re: anyone have a Yorkie??
I had a Yorkie for fourteen and a half years. His name was Reggie( that is how I got my screen name). He was the love of my life until I met my fi(then I had two loves in my life ). They make fantastic pets. They are so loveable and very protective of their owners.
Now I need to be honest.. many Yorkies can have a lot of health problems due to the inbreeding. Mine did, and I knew some people who went through a lot of vet visits with Yorkies. Reggie was sickly from the days of his puppyhood right until he was put to sleep.
If you do get one, please don't purchase one from a pet shop. Do it through a private breeder(think u mentioned that).
Good Luck.

Re: anyone have a Yorkie??
I have a 10 month old Yorkie Teacup. VERY cute. She ahd a lot of hea;th problems andin the beginning we thought she'd die, but we attribute that to where we bought her and my other puppy..bad place!... Anyway, she's really cute and fiesty. veyr sall. She's easy to take anyway, in the car etc. She fits in a pocket! I have to be honest, I don't know about the allergy thing, cause I can't really touch my yorkie too much I'm so allergic to her. But my mom keeps her hair kinda long, so that could be part of it.

Danielle has two. Buddy is 8 and Benji is 13. They are very cute, and very loveable. They also make great lap dogs.
The cons: They are very yappy...What I mean is they like to bark....alot. Danielle's dogs also pee in the house, even if they go outside....for a long time...and then they come in the house and pee. I think if you get a female yorkie, you will not have this problem. Both of Danielle's dogs are male.
Also they have very small lungs, and they snort sort of when they breathe.
Other than that.....They are great dogs.

That's pretty funny because I was on 40th and Broadway yesterday around lunch time (1:00ish?)...And I specifically remember having a run-in with a little dog...I was on the phone with my mom at the time and the owner walked in front of me with her tiny dog and I almost stepped on it.
I even said it to my mother: 'I almost just stepped on a little dog'
Wonder if it was the same dog?

My best friend has one even though he is a bit on the large side for a Yorkie. He is a wonderful dog, couldnt ask for a better personality. The only downsides to yorkies are they 1) have a tendancy toward dental problems and 2) can be yappy.
Oh ya I forgot to mention about buddy and Benjis dental problems. They also tend to have really bad breath.....

Re: anyone have a Yorkie??
I have a yorkie.. he will be 3 next month. They are great dogs, very loyal. When we first got him, he was 3 weeks old, he had some stomach problem and was in the vet for 2 days but since then no other health problems. He doesn't bark very much only when he wants to go out or when the doorbell rings but what dog doesn't??We trained him when we first got him and if he has to go to the bathroom when no one is home he goes in the bathroom. But otherwise he lets us know when he wants to go out. The only thing I have noticed is that he is very jealous. If I am holding him and someone touches me he growls at them. The only other thing is he is not good with chilrden but I think that is only because he is never around them. I mean when my little cousins are over they play with him and he is fine but when children he doesn't know are near him he won't give them the time of day and may snap at them, but he has never bit anyone. Their teeth are so tiny they could't do any harm anyway.
One funny thing we noticed is that he is allergic to the smell of cigarettes, if someone is smoking next to him he starts sneezing or if someone who smokes is holding him he'll sneze.
Overall, they are great dogs. And the best part is they don't shed at all. I have never found any of his hair on my clothes or around the house. We are actually planning on getting another one this summer

My reggie did the same thing(snorting and he had breathing problems)> we had to put to sleep last summer.. he was 14. I miss him so much,

Re: anyone have a Yorkie??
I just got a Yorkie last Saturday. We named her Molly. She is soooo cute. My parents got her brother, Quinn. We got them from a breeder in West Hempstead. FM me if you want the number. The puppy's were born in Ireland. Quinn seems to be sick now. He has kennel cough. Molly is great. I am so glad we got them. I think it will kill any baby fever that I might have for a while

Why don't u try looking for yorkie rescue group that finds home for lost or stray yorkies. You do search on google.
