My company actually has us use AIM to communicate w. other offices, like the one in LA. It saves them the long distance calls. I love that I can be on here without getting in harassed

I have a similar situation with work, but I still get harrassed! I work for two different departments, one of which is located across the country, so we IM each other, but the other dept doesn't seem to get that I'm doing it for work, and they complain! People drive me nuts!

I do. We actually have to have it. My supervisor told us we had too. It's the way she keeps track of us too. My department is in 3 different building and and like 6 different offices. It's the way we communicate.
I also use it for the students I manage. I make sure they have an IM so when I am at home and they are working at the helpdesk I can talk to them and check up.

We use AIM here at our office to communicate with each other, so it's on all day.
I also chat with my friends, since many of us live in different states it saves on the phone bills
