Hi Marcella,

Don't know where your new house is but Consumer Kitchen and Bath is a great store to go to - they have design specialist there to help you out and they have a ton of setups and samples for you to look at.

Good luck

hey sweetie.. the problem with me isn't the kitchen itself. I have a big kitchen with vaulted ceiling and skylight and a big bay window. my problem is the decor itself and how to decorate it... or should i say paint it.. it's a nightmare! lol edited to say that I have all brand new appliances and cabinets as well.. it's all new.. it's just trying to pick the colors and I don't want it to look cheesy.

Re: Anyone have any sites on decor for a kitchen?

This is my kitchen.. (I got it off the mills pride site)

the only dif is that we don't have a center island (yet) and I have vaulted ceilings and the counter on the left of this picture is MUCH longer and I have more cabinets on teh top and bottom and I have a lip of the counter avail. for stools to put in, and on teh right, I have more counter and cabinets and then my fridge..and my backsplash is the same as the countertops..

My thing is that right now they have it painted as follows: the wall next to the left side of this pic is a dark pink, almost salmon color, and the wall on the top of the vaulted celing is the same color, all else is white. I want something dif, but warm feel for this kitchen. I also want a Parisian whimsical chef theme to the kitchen as well..

Country French kitchen is tres formidable
By Rose Bennett Gilbert, Copley News Service
Q. We spent a year in France while we both did graduate work. It was an experience that has colored our lives ever since, especially our tastes in decorating -- Country French all the way -- except the kitchen, but that's next and I'm gathering ideas. We'd be grateful for any advice.
A. My best advice: Forget that this is a kitchen and just echo your French accent from the other rooms in the house.
What makes a kitchen Country French is much the same as any of the other rooms you've already done, even though you have a refrigerator, stove, sink and such to deal with.
As you must remember from your years abroad, an authentic French kitchen is as much about living as it is about the preparation of food. Nothing streamlined. No battalion of matching cabinets or cold, hard surfaces. And nothing slicker or shinier than the polished wood floor and copper soup pots. Opt for hardwood, ceramic tile or slate floors. Use stucco or texture paint on the walls.
Eschew the usual work island for a big, old kitchen table. Bring in toiles, plaids, provincial prints -- all cliches, of course, but highly evocative of the ambience you're after.
Just don't get cutesy -- cutesy is an ever-present danger when you're doing a theme room. And never sacrifice convenience for appearance, especially in a working kitchen.
The photo we show here should provide inspiration. It's a new kitchen made mellow with what looks like Old World textures and colors, although some of the ingredients are actually as new as modern technology.
For example, the Questech metal trims on the backsplash are a lightweight blend of ingredients that looks and acts like real metal. Its designs echo the carvings on the range hood and table apron that help give this kitchen its Gallic charms.
Q. What can I do about a long, dark hallway? It runs off the kitchen to the downstairs powder room, and there are no windows, only one little ceiling light.
A. Think reflectively, pun intended. Paint or paper the hall a light color, and hang it floor to ceiling with as many mirrors in as many shapes and sizes as you can collect. Then, add a couple of wall sconces to provide light for the mirrors to reflect.
Or, if the hall's wide enough, slip in a narrow console with a small table lamp on each end. Keep the floor light, too. A sisal runner, say, will also bounce back light and help lose the 'dark tunnel' effect.
Q. We're going over plans for the house we'll build on a piece of property I inherited from an aunt while I was in college.
This is going to be our dream home and I don't want it to be outdated. Here's my main question: Should we have a separate living room at all, or should we run the living and dining room together? Our lifestyle is not very formal, but the thought of not having a living room is scary!
A. Fear not. You're in with the trend toward altogether living spaces. A recent survey by the International Furnishings and Design Association explores the 'great debate' over the future of the formal living room and formal dining room. Nearly two-thirds (71 percent) of the design industry pros IFDA queried say great rooms will eclipse living rooms by the year 2020. And 51.3 percent say living rooms will soon be extinct altogether.
I say divvy up your space to suit your family's lifestyle.
And, if you think that could possibly include the need for a formal living room, work one into your floor plans. If you miss your guess, it can always morph into a home office.

it actually wouldn't look bad.. but it's just that I am torn.. then I was thinking of doing a faux finish to it and do a rust color..

No if you like the yellow go for it. I love it, and with the style in your kitchen it would be just marvelous.

Accetn pieces are all you would need to complete the look. Not many people do yellows and the salamon rust thing is always done.

I say go for the big YELLOW
