That is very interesting. The cable company said the technology isnt perfected yet....I wonder why they told us this. THanks for the info!

The technology has been out for YEARS and frankly it will never be perfected. Companies like Replay and Tivo had DVRs for years. Time Warner is finally getting up to speed.

But like I said... since you have to buffer the video for you to be able to control live TV... you will always get a delay when changing channels.

The TWC DVR actually changes the channel pretty fast actually compared to Tivo and Replay. I doubt it will ever get too much faster.

what kind of delay are we talking?

we have one. Its the best, but lately we've been having problems with it. (skipping, freezing, the list doesn't work sometimes, rebooting doesn't work you actually have to unplug it then plug it back in). Cable guy came and didn' t bother replacing it, so now we have to go in and exchange it. PITA!
But when it works its awesome!

def demand a new one bc some boxes are just screwy. our 1st was great but then randomly blew out and the replacement froze every time you tried to watch anything. we just asked for a new one and it works perfect.

the channel change thing is no bother. it only takes 2 more seconds than regular.

question, let's say a show starts at 8 p.m. I'm running late and turn it on at 8:30 and press record. Will I get the 30 mins I missed as well?

No you won't. And even if you are watching something live... where you can actually rewind back to the beginning... if you want to 'record' it... you will only get from what point on. I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure this is the way it works.

another question, let's say i get a call and i pause the live tv, how long does it pause and will i get all the stuff that happened after it, or is there a limit?

There is a limit... but you can usually pause it for at least an hour. I know on my replayTV a clock came up telling me my available pause time. I think the TWC DVR does the same.

I'm pretty sure the limit is 1 hr.
Same thing with how far back you can rewind.

We have it for a while now - we got it when it first came out -- It was a little buggy in the beginning but I think they've worked out most of the bugs. We never watch live TV anymore - no commercials! There are many options and features. It holds up to 36 hours of tv which I hope at some point they'll expand. We taped alot of the olympics and had to constantly delete, but that was only for 2 weeks!

You'll love it!

ETA: Since we've got it we stay up so late and watch tv -- that's the only con

DJPill, is the channel change delay that noticeable?

On my digital box now, there's a 1-2 sec delay

Re: Anyone have DVR for Time Warner Cable

Its not that bad. You get used to it... knowing the benefit that a DVR brings to the table.

I might be spoiled... cause when I had my Replay... the delay was really bad (like 4 seconds). So the TWC DVR was a major improvement.

Besides... one thing that only one person mentioned here... is the dual tuner benefit the DVR brings. You can watch one show live while recording another show live. The DVR also gives you the ability to PIP another show (even if your TV doesn't have PIP as an option).

You can also record one show live, record another show on a different channel live, while watching a recorded show.

As long as the apprentice you already recorded that you want to watch is completely done recording (like it was recorded yesterday)... then the answer is YES.

Yup... my FI says its being worked on for Cablevision... but still a ways away.

Thats one advantage I can hit my FI up with when she says how shytty TWC is next to Cablevision (she works for Cablevision). She is right most of the time since Cablevision's hi-definition offerings totally destroy Time Warner's. But the DVR is a huge plus.

wow -- also, do i need to leave my cable box on when recording?

for example, when i tape something now, i set my VCR timer and leave the channel on the one I want and just turn the TV off but I leave the box on. if I turn the box off, it won't tape

Re: Anyone have DVR for Time Warner Cable

You turn the cable box off like normal. Theoretically the cable box is always 'on'. But when you hit the power button on the cable box like normal... it turns off the TV. But it will still record the shows. You don't need to leave it turned on.

We have it and we love it. The only negative is that the technology isnt perfected yet so there is a delay when changing chanels...just moves a little slower than the regular cable boxes.

yes thats kinda annoying, so I usually look at the TV guide to see if I might be interested in something and change the channel then
