we have one. Its the best, but lately we've been having problems with it. (skipping, freezing, the list doesn't work sometimes, rebooting doesn't work you actually have to unplug it then plug it back in). Cable guy came and didn' t bother replacing it, so now we have to go in and exchange it. PITA! But when it works its awesome!

Re: Anyone have DVR for Time Warner Cable
Its very good. Works great.
I just got the Hi-Definition one last week. They just came out on the 20th and they look exactly the same as the regular DVR (they just have additional hi-definition ports).
The HI-Def ones are extremely buggy though. I am not entirely thrilled with it... but I am waiting it out since the issues are known and I figure TWC will just send out a software upgrade to all the boxes to fix it.
The standard DVR works great though.

The hard drive was probably either fragmented or going bad. It definitely needed service.

We have it and we love it. The only negative is that the technology isnt perfected yet so there is a delay when changing chanels...just moves a little slower than the regular cable boxes.

question, let's say a show starts at 8 p.m. I'm running late and turn it on at 8:30 and press record. Will I get the 30 mins I missed as well?

The reason there is a delay is because the system has to 'buffer' the video for a second in order to give you the ability to be able to control the TV 'live' (forward / rewind / etc).
In fact... when you are watching a DVR... even if you are watching it live... its not really live. Its about 1-5 seconds delayed. Watch a DVR and then watch a non-DVR cable tv in another room and you will see what I am talking about.

No you won't. And even if you are watching something live... where you can actually rewind back to the beginning... if you want to 'record' it... you will only get from what point on. I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure this is the way it works.

another question, let's say i get a call and i pause the live tv, how long does it pause and will i get all the stuff that happened after it, or is there a limit?

yeah i know. Unfortunately we weren't home when the guy came, SIL was there and didn't bother calling DH when he came. The guy 'adjusted the cables' and 'did something outside'... he should have replaced the freakin thing. Even customer service said 'he didn't replace the box???' I wish i had the guys name.

If the cable box was on that channel already, and you see you are able to rewind the whole show, it will record the beginning of the show (without you ahvign to rewind). But if you turn to it from another channel and are late, it won't record the missed part.

Re: Anyone have DVR for Time Warner Cable
I Do I Do I Do ! I love it! We just got it abotu a month ago. It has a little PIcture in PICture box too. It is slow changing cahnells & when you selcet the 'guide' function. When you switch channels sometimes there is an audio lag.
It is slower than my old digital box & sometimes it freeses for a few seconds.
But the pros defintely outweigh the cons.

There is a limit... but you can usually pause it for at least an hour. I know on my replayTV a clock came up telling me my available pause time. I think the TWC DVR does the same.

That is very interesting. The cable company said the technology isnt perfected yet....I wonder why they told us this. THanks for the info!

The technology has been out for YEARS and frankly it will never be perfected. Companies like Replay and Tivo had DVRs for years. Time Warner is finally getting up to speed.
But like I said... since you have to buffer the video for you to be able to control live TV... you will always get a delay when changing channels.
The TWC DVR actually changes the channel pretty fast actually compared to Tivo and Replay. I doubt it will ever get too much faster.
