Trust me, I can relate. Before DH and I were engaged, his twin brothers girlfriend used to make fun of me because I cared what my e-ring looked like. I'm sorry, but I had been with DH for 8 years at that point and all I had said was that I wanted a brilliant cut, at least a carat. Last I checked that wasn't an outrageous request. Whatever. She would try to embarass me in front of other people, 'Oh Nicole cares so much about her ring. I don't even want a traditional engagement ring. It's just a stupid piece of jewlry.' Well as soon as DH and I got engaged, she started pressuring BIL for a proposal BIG TIME! She had set a three year deadline and a week before their 3 year anniversary (this past Feb.) he proposed. And guess what... her ring is quite similar to mine. My setting is all pave and hers is kind of filagree, so they both have a very antique feel to them. And now, she has decided that her ring isn't good enough and she's having more diamonds added. And the funny thing is, her ring is probably going to wind up looking even more like mine. she's such a little hypocrit.
Oh, did I mention that initially she tried to plan her wedding before ours even though our was already booked and in the planning stages? That's a whole other story. And trust me, I'll never run out of storied when it comes to this girl.

It's kinda sad that she has to compete like that. She must be REALLY insecure to have the need to have better things than people around her. Feel sorry for her. You are in love and getting married girl!!! Let her wallow in her miserable life!

People like our FSILs are just unhappy people in general. I know mine really gets under my skin sometimes, but the best way to deal with it is to try not to let it bother you. I've gotten better at that and to some extent I just feel sorry for her. Nothing she has will ever be good enough and I don't think she will ever be truely happy. I feel bad for my BIL because he's always going to fall short in her eyes and eventually it's going to make him miserable too.

Please dont take this the wrong way, it is NOT a flame by any means...but...why don't you just ignore her? Dont go to Thanksgiving if you dont want to and ignore her seemingly rude behavior...if she bothers you that much. Imitation is the biggest form of a compliment you can get. But otherwise, just ignore her, I think you are devoting way too much time to this drama. Concentrate on your own special big day and let her be unhappy while you have a wonderful time!

well to make matters worse for me.. i get to 'compete' with my sister not my FSIL.

she was dating a guy for 6 years, they got engaged in february.

FH and i dating for almost 1.5 years when we got engaged.

he did it incredibly romantic and we set our date right away. my sister freaked out and gave her e-ring back to her FH and said he had to do it better. now granted his proposal might not have been stupendous, but they were engaged for 8 months... at that point theres no redos.

then she decided she had to get married before me and booked a place for february. so now shes getting married 3 months before me and doesn't even have her ring back.

i wasn't competing.. i was just living my life.. i dont get it. but hey, to each their own ::insert a little shrugging guy here::

Yup, I hear you! At our mini e-party, after dinner, I asked the waiter to take a picture of all of us. She was standing between me and FH so I said 'Can I stand next to him?' And she grabs him and screams 'He's mine!'

At least your showed. My FSIL didn't come to my shower or the RD. She had 'excuses' for both.

I dont know if you remember but you helped me out through a vent awhile back about FSIL. She was so obsessed with being the first DIL(even though I have been around alot longer)that she rushed through planning her wedding and then made comments about how I wasn't part of the family and she was and tried to trick me out of the family pictures at her wedding... I fully understand your drama! Good Luck with her. I finally blew a lie she told out of the water and now not only does she not speak to me(thank god)but neither does FBIL(again thank god).

Oh, the drama! Take it as a compliment that she wants to be like you! She is so jealous you should just laugh at her. It's really pathetic.
