my RH has oval tables too and I am doing high CPs. I think you can get away with the same CPs that you would on a round table - unless you want to do long low CPs on the table which is also really pretty!

I have oval tables and I am doing a main low CP and on the side there will be like 2 volitve candles and I think I can get rose petals to fill in as well.

there are pics in my album of my hall, with CPs on an oval table
i was a little worried about one big CP on a long table but it looks great!

I'll be doing something similar to this, as far as having multiple vases....
My centerpieces consist of three vases and four candles:
24 inch vase with calla lilies in the middle of the table
candles on either side of that vase
then small glass cubes with callas on each side
then candles on either side of those
I think it's important to work with the length of our oval tables.
