I wrnched my back a couple of weeks ago, it was stiff and painful for a few days, but now it seems my sciatic nerve is really angry... I get burning, searing pain from my lower back all the way down the back of my buttock, thigh and to my knee. It kills to bnd over or sit at the wrong angle. Anyone else have this problem? What do you do for it? NSAIDs (Motrin, Advil, Aleve) do not help, nor do tpicals like Ben Gay or Icy Hot. I'm gonna try a bath next, but I know as soon as it cools down it's going to hurt again.
Thinking of going for a massage? Not sure what else to do!!

Re: Anyone have sciatica issues?
YES! I doesn't act up often but when I sleep funky for a few nights straight it will start to aggravate me and it's so annoying and painful. I usually just heat up on of those herbal heating bags and keep the one it and take pain meds (not prescription, like Tylenol or Bayer or something like that).
If you can go for a massage I would do it.

Re: Anyone have sciatica issues?
Thanks Jessie. It's good for a while, and then all of a sudden I'll bend and it's painful and it'll stay that way for a few days, get better for a day and come back. I want it to go away for good, it's awful. I'm gonna try to make a massage appt for Tuesday.

oh my gosh, I had sciatica soo bad when I was pregnant, the only thing that helped me was a heating pad set on high laying in bed...

Re: Anyone have sciatica issues?
I definitely suffer and I will say for me just the idea of a massage makes me want to scream in pain! Eek! I know at times I cant sit, stand, lay down - NOTHING. Ive even had to crawl up the stairs sometimes that it has been so bad. Thermacare wraps are a GODSEND! I slap one on (it velcros) and I sleep with it. After a few days the relief is clear.
Feel better lady! I KNOW your pain too well!

Re: Anyone have sciatica issues?
maybe even instead of a massage at like a spa try looking up some massage therapist (some of them may even be covered by insurance). They would know better what to do to help it.

This is the first time I've hd this particular pain. You think a massage is a bad idea?

What about a chiro? They really helped me with my back.

I was considering that too, but I don't think it's covered by my insurance and I don't think I could afford it right now.

Most chiro sessions are not that expensive...like $25/session. You aren't in there for longer than 10 minutes...at least the chiro by me. Maxine Maeyries in Glen Cove.
Also, not to freak you out but my ex had this problem and it turns out he slipped a disc...needed minor back surgery. He was out of the hospital the next day (and walking) and didn't suffer from sciatica after.

If you're interested in a DO that practices homeopathy and does all chiropractic-like adjustments, let me know! He's in Glen Cove. Life saver.

Re: Anyone have sciatica issues?
I dont recommend a massage personally. Its the nerves that are acting up, not the muscle so much. Definite heat and rest as much as possible. Supportive shoes a must (sneakers with socks etc). No flip flops or heels right now until it passes. I swear the thermacare wraps were the only thing that saved me! It can be god awful.
FM me if you need any other help! And feel better!

Re: Anyone have sciatica issues?
Thanks for all your suggestions ladies! I checked my provider manual and there are chiros in there (very few of them) but I think I'm gonna go to my PCP and see what he tells me to do. God forbid it is something like a slipped disc, how would I know?
