Anyone have viennese?

Original post by jellybean1420

Did anyone have the viennese set up without the extra hour? My cocktail hour doesnt start until 7 so I thought having an extra hour for the viennese like most people do and the wedding ending at 1 is too late. But I hope the viennese set up doesnt cut into too much time. Should I add maybe an extra 1/2 hr.?

I'm doing the viennese because FI and I are very big dessert people! We are having the same dilema - my hall starts the viennese the last hour of the reception (the reception is 5 hours long) so we may add an extra 1/2 hour or hour to the end...the overtime costs start to add up though! Plus a friday or sunday night you may not have people willing to stay very late...we are still considering it - let me know what you decide!

I am having the VH. Actually when FH and I first got engaged we sat down to work out our budget for the wedding, and that was something we both agreed that we were budgeting in no matter what the cost. We would rather do less somewhere else than not have the VH. We really just wanted the extra hour because the wedding goes by too fast and we wanted to make the day last as long as possible. Our wedding is going to be from 6:00-12:00 midnight.

I don't know if it necessarily worth the extra $ for the Viennese. You may want to suggest to the hall that if you do it you don't want it in the middle of the dance floor to interupt all of the dancing time. you pay enough for the music so you want people to be able to dance. A few of the places i looked at included the viennese and it was right outside the room. I would think about your guests would they appreciate the late night sweet?

We're getting a mini viennese, with chocolate dipped fruit and italian pastries on each table in addition to the cake. I think this is plenty after all the food. I've been to so many weddings with a viennese and only touch one thing from it and hardly anyone had a piece of the wedding cake! I'd rather spend the money elsewhere.

I am not having viennese, my hall doesn't offer it but they will have a variety of cookies/mini desserts/chocolate covered straw, etc on all the tables, plus wedding cake and another dessert of my choice. We are also doing the chocolate fountain so I think that will be plenty.

Do you think a 7:30 CH is to late. My wedding starts at 7:30-1:30 with Viennesse?

I definitely agree with Reenielady, I would never want it to be in the middle of the dance floor! Our's in the hallway right outside the room. Actually I spoke to me BM and she suggested having a platter rather then the whole VH. I would still have the extra hour, but I would have a plate for everyone, and on everyone's plate would be a piece of cake, a few pasties, and two scoops of ice cream. Then I would have the chocolate fountain with fruit off to the side of the room somewhere. She suggested this because I was explaining to her that I have to pay an extra $200 to have my DJ stay there and play music and I was concerned that with the VH in a separate room that no one would dance, so she suggested that option to us. I thought it was a good idea. I have to talk it over with the FH. If you really want it, do it.

My reception is 7:30-1:30 too. I'm not worried about it. My viennesse will be on the side, not on the dance floor so that's a help. No interrupting the dancin' maniacs.

The North Ritz has the viennese display in the same room the cocktail hour is held. It is completely out of the way. My family is huge dessert eaters plus we are having 200 people....so I think the viennese will go quickly. Everyone I spoke to is excited about it....definetely something I have always wanted.

We had a viennese hour and it was a HUGE hit. People loved the chocolate fountain and the flambe station...I honestly couldn't believe how much people ate at the viennese hour (their plates were compeletely full and some people had two plates). Before the wedding, I was definitely worried that people wouldn't eat but I was so glad that we had it. Our wedding went until 1 and it was totally not a big deal...I don't think many people left early at all.
