ANyone having a Cash BAR>?

Original post by holly231

the bar is open 5 hours for me..,.and I would not have it any other way...

I was just wondering...because I was talking weddings with a few people out here in RI and they asked if it was open bar...(not being nosy in any sense, just in conversation) I said absolutely...they told me they only had open bar for cocktail hour....

IN the few places I met with, bar was included in the price, and I never thought to ask if I coudl ahve a cash bar...it just never entered my mind...

No offense to anyone who is doing a cash bar, maybe it saves you money...but I just could not bear to ask my guests to pay for their drinks....

I was just wondering if anyone is having a cash bar, or if it was jsut different for different states....(I was talking to friends from MA and RI)

I think we're the exception in this area. OPne bar is teh ormhere, but I think cash bar is common everywhere else.

I went to one in CT that was open bar, but CT, might be either or, since its kind of metro area & kind of new England.

I went to a weird one in PA years ago that didn't have a bar. They had non alcholic beer, and I think it was in self serve taps or something (I was underage, I jsut remebr my uncles comlainign about the lack of booze- but i think that was the couple's choice)

I have lived in Tennessee and now in Michigan and have relatives in Tx, Maryland, virginia, Conn - I have been to weddings everywhere except (where I am living now -but I have spoken to three girls at my church out here who are getting married) Not one has been a cash bar. I asked the girls out here and they say it is a tacky thing to do - people only do it when they can't afford anything - but it is frowned upon.

I will tell you many places DON'T have a FULL bar only beer, wine and soda.

Etiquette wise you are never supposed to have a cash bar - so that is not a NY thing - but I think many people throw those things out the window - outside of NY it is actually common to have white tie elaborate cocktail parties instead sometimes with just champagne and cake (but their flowers cost like 20K!!!!!!!)- that was common in nashville

I agree! I would not feel comfortable asking guest to pay for their drinks.
