Anyone having a Male Attendant

I have a very close male friend and want to ask him to stand on my side. Anyone else doing that? How can I do so w/o making him feel awkward?

Re: Anyone having a Male Attendant

I was the 'best person' for a male friend of mine. We were best friends for 13 years and he picked me because he really wasn't close with his two older brothers. I wore the same dress as the bridesmaids. It was a huge wedding... over 400 people but all of the guest knew who I was. I got up to give my toast and everyone was whispering my name.

I would say go for it. If he is the person who has been the most supportive of you then he should be your witness above all others.

I did mostly stay with the girls the morning of the wedding and got my pictures etc. taken with them. Unfortunately, it was a bit strange because it became increasingly apparent that day that the bride was jealous of our relationship... even though we lived in two different states. But that's a whole other story.

Some suggestions... have him dressed like the other guys. Maybe a different boutinerre?
Depending upon what you are doing for a shower/bachelorette party you may or may not want to invite him along. My male friend wasn't the raunchy bachelor party type so I treated him to lunch in the city and a classic car show. I also don't think I would hand him my bouquet at the altar/chuppah or maybe he could just take it and quickly put it down for you.

Ask him what his comfort level would be in participating in the traditional maid of honor duties. If he isn't maybe you could delegate some of the to another bridesmaid and change around the job description.

My mother died when I was 8 and my only female attendant lives out of state so I've re-written the 'job descriptions' for my family and friends

Re: Anyone having a Male Attendant

My male cousin who was 14 at the time was my Man of Honor instead of having a Maid of Honor. He wore a tuxedo, and looked like the rest of the guys, he just stood next to me! He felt very special that I had asked him. It really meant a lot to me to have him next to me. I've known him since he was born, so we're really close. I've always said he was going to be my Man of Honor.

He didn't feel awkward at all. He was a lot younger than the rest of the bridal party too. I actually wanted to have all guys in my bridal party, but ended up not doing it.

Good luck!

I am! As soon as he heard he wasn't wearing a dress , he was very happy to do it . I don't see why he would feel awkward.

I had a friend who I wanted to be my Man of Honor and he was willing to wear the dress! Now, that's a whole different story! BTW, it didn't happen.
