Anyone having cakes made to match their dress??

Original post by randella

I think I want to do this-- I think it's kinda cool and a great way to tie the whole wedding look together...

Anyone else doing this, and does anyone have any pics?? Need to start building a file.

Thanks!

Who/What is Grace Ormonde? Is that a book??

I can probably draw something for the bakery.. I have some artistic talent.. and I can certainly draw swirley lines-- that's a good idea.. I should start pulling some simple cakes, then sketching out the patterns- and that is something I can work off of.. Plus it will get the creative juices flowing!!

It (Grace Ormonde) is a fancy smancy wedding magazine I picked up at Barnes and Noble. It has a decent section on cakes and bo-k's. (Although some the bo-k's are a little too artsy for my taste.)

Oh, I found it in the wedding/bridal magazine section. I was looking for cakes and needed inspiration. There aren't really that many magazines with good pictures of cakes.

I'll look for it- I don't have a problem sinking ridiculous amounts of money into wedding magazines..

I bought a wedding cakes mag for 11 bucks. I am nuts.

Me! Well, it will match the bridesmaids -the girls are wearing brown and pink and our cake with have chocolate frosting with pink ribbon on the bottom of each tier.

Sorta like this, but round with no sashes and pink flowers, not red.

I am crazy too. I bought a Martha Stewart special edition magazine called Good Things for Weddings. There are some neat cakes in there too. (That mag was $9.95)

I rationalize that I can use some of the food recipes for entertaining. (I like to delude myself )

Oh yes... I know the delusion well.

What color is the embroidery in your dress?

You could use something like this to mirror it.

(I was playing on my bakery's website to see if they had a picture of my cake on it. They don't )

Does the Carltun limit what kind of icing you can have, or can you 'upgrade' if need be? I don't have any pictures, but I know exactly what you are trying to do. A lot of cakes I have seen that are inspiried by the wedding dress have Fondant icing which is $$$, and from what i have heard, does not really taste that good..

When we designed our cake with Oheka, they told us it would take 9 months to get the stencils to match the dress and it was insanely expensive even if just an upgrade. Just so you know!

i have seen brushed embriodery on cakes that looks stunning as matches to dresses. i cant belive they need stencils. i would have just thought that the bakeries would copy off a picture of the dress.

thanks girls-- this helps.. What I need to do is put a call into Carltun- I don;t even know the bakeries I am supposed to work with are-- I';ll investigate-- if it's too much money though- screw it. Don't need the additional cost.
