Anyone having or had a RD at home?

Anyone having or had a RD at home?

Our RD is a Friday night in Brooklyn at the Church at 8pm. OUR WEDDING IS SUNDAY.

We were originally thinking of going to Pete's Downtown or Downtown Atlantic or Bubby's in Brooklyn Heights/Dumbo and getting a pre-fixe menu set up....

My mom suggested that we invite everyone back to the house and have a cocktail party instead...catered of course....

Just curious to know if anyone is doing this or has done this in the past?

note: it will ONLY be our Bridal Party, our parents, and Readers w/their SO's....approximately 20 people.

I love how you're like, 'catered of course' - you mean you aren't going to cook for everyone??!

I put it in as a pre-caution for the people that will say 'Ugh, if you cook yourself it'll be TACKY...'

my mother actually suggested smtg like this too but i am undecided about it reason being i honestly dont want to have to worry about cleaning up or hosting smtg the night before the wedding, i just want to go somplace to eat so i have less to worry about, but if you did decide on it it could definately be really nice and more relaxed

I would have loved to do this! I think it's a great idea.

I think that is fine. But then you or your mom will feel as if you need to serve everyone, make sure everyone is comfortable. That's the only down side to having it at home. But I think it's a good idea otherwise!

Thanks!

Catered = me and mom enjoy, and let the catering co. do the rest (including cleaning up)

I say do it! If Fh and I were getting married in the summer, I would have invited everyone back to our house for a bbq/catered food.

I think it would be great to have it at home. If we were getting married in the warmer months, my ILs were going to have a BBQ in their backyard...both of our houses are too small for the size of our RD.

You should definitely have it at home, it would be very intimate.

FSIL did this at her mother's house. It was nice, but it would've been nicer if they had taken the time to CLEAN the house before having people over!

I think it's a great idea - but it depends on your family. If you think your Mom will be a little frazzled doing a party 2 days before the wedding, it may be easier to just go out.

We'll be going out - but only because FMIL is hosting, and i dont want cat hair in my food!

I am having a RD of sorts at home. It is custom in my family to have everyone over the night before the wedding to eat Indian food, dance, etc. I prefer this to a RD in a restaurant - it's more intimate and relaxed. If that's not the feel of your wedding though I would opt for a restaurant.

My friend had her RD at her now husband's house. It was great, very laid back and more enjoyable

jeez, are we really at that point where home cooking is considered tacky?

anyhoo... sounds like a good time to me. Relaxed and comfy, especially since its so close to the big day.

We actually thought about it...the only draw back we had was it had to be the night before and sometimes guests feel too comfortable that they do not want to leave and I had to get to bed.

I think it's a great idea! Go for it!

We're cooking the food - I would never try to have our Trinidad and Dominican food catered. THAT would be a nightmare!

It was more for the expected response of 'It's tacky to do it at home, these people are spending hundreds of dollars to be a part of your special day, the least you can do is feed them at a restaurant!!!'

Ya know, those???
