Anyone having or had a RD at home?

Original post by ChrissynRicky

Our RD is a Friday night in Brooklyn at the Church at 8pm. OUR WEDDING IS SUNDAY.

We were originally thinking of going to Pete's Downtown or Downtown Atlantic or Bubby's in Brooklyn Heights/Dumbo and getting a pre-fixe menu set up....

My mom suggested that we invite everyone back to the house and have a cocktail party instead...catered of course....

Just curious to know if anyone is doing this or has done this in the past?

note: it will ONLY be our Bridal Party, our parents, and Readers w/their SO's....approximately 20 people.

i'm pretty sure we are doing it at my dad's firehouse. will only be ironic and poignant as my grad. parties have been there, my engagement party was at my FH's firehouse...

anywhoo....it's pretty much the same thing as having it at home. in my opinion, i like it BETTER when rehearsals are SUPER CASUAL. in the old days, that's exactly what they did.... i don't like getting all dressed up the day before you have to go get realllly dressed up.

so...in my lame opinion, i think it's not tacky, it's not bad...and I think would be good~ ok, i'm done.

DH's cousin and FI invited all OOT guests to a dinner the night before at their house. They had pizza and sandwiches. We really enjoyed it b/c it was laid back and we got to meet some of DH's relatives before the wedding-he hadn't seen some of them in years.

That is exactly what I will be doing. When my brother got married this past June, he did the same. Had the entile BP and their spouses come over the house and had food catered. I like that idea best b/c if you plan on giving your BP gifts, it is a more personal setting.

When my brother got married, we had the rehearsal at the Church and then everyone came back to my mom's house for the dinner. It was nicer this way because then we didn't have to worry about the restaurant rushing us out. It was small and intimate this way and much more relaxing.

I was in a wedding that had the RD at home. It was wonderful! So relaxed and you could talk to everyone there instead of only the people that sat on either side of you.

I want this so badly but unfortunately, my mom says 'no' for her house and FH's parents' house is in no condition to host a party.

I was in a wedding a few years ago and the rehearsal was on a wednesday night and the wedding was on Friday (the day after Thanksgiving). They had the rehearsal dinner at home and it was really nice. It was very laid back and casual. I'd say if you're comfortable with it, go for it.

One of Mike's friends had their RD catered in their backyard...it was awesome...they had the pool open etc etc...I would do the same its just that my wedding is the next day and I will be spending the night at my moms so I wont have time to oversee everything being cleaned up (yes, Im a clean freak)...so we're doing a restaurant...Waterfront Crab House in LIC
