We were 25 minutes away form where the shark attack was in Lihue, Kauaii. While in Hawaii, I was so scared in the water, because I kept seeing shadows and my DH was making fun of me.

It was on the weekend.
Sharks come to the shore, when they can't get any food out at sea. When we were in Hawaii, it was warmer then normal, I wonder if that has anything to do with it. In Oahu, they were having massive amounts of Jellyfish at some beaches too.

Yes I heard about it. A young girl's arm was bitten off... it was on MSNBC's website. They showed a picture of the surfboard with a big chomp taken out of it... it's amazing that she survived. Scary stuff

That is crazy. When I was in Maui for my HM last year, there was a shark attack..thankfully I think he old took a toe off of someone and they were ok. Then as soon as I got back I heard about another.
We were snorkleling the day of the first one and were about to head to another location and I heard the captain of the boat discussing the topic (don't think it was meant for us customers to hear) because the location we were headed to was closed off. I didn't think too much of it..and thank goodness DH didn't hear it - he has a childhood fear of sharks since watching Jaws!

(actually Al got a pretty bad man-of-war sting in Oahu - the thing was all wrapped around him )

I dunno...Al was stung while kiting. He was dragged through the tenticles - that's how he got wrapped up in them. I was out in the water with him (bodydragging with the kite) only minutes before
