Anyone here married but still living in an apt?

Original post by glinda_goodwitch

We are finishing grad school and have no plans of buying a house for a while. It's wierd, because sometimes I feel like I don't want to decorate, or use any of our new wedding gifts. I feel like I want to save it for the house. But who knows when that will be? I'm trying so hard to get out of that attitude so I can enjoy the things we received. But part of me wants to keep them shiny and new until we get a house. Anyone else know what I mean?

We rent and will continue to rent for another couple of years. We've lived in our apartment for almost 2 1/2 years, and it's very homey.

We are using pretty much all of our new stuff that we got for my bridal shower. No point in having it sit in storage collecting dust for two years. That's two years of good use I could be getting out of it!

After my shower we had to rent a storage facility. We had stuff at my parents house, in the basement of our rented house, jammed in our closets, etc. The bridal shower gifts only added to that. We put all of our old appliances in storage and put our new stuff in the kitchen, bathroom, bedroom etc.

We got a very large storage unit for about $100 a month. Very worth it for us.

I'm in the same situation as all of you. We're renting the ground floor of a house. We are using most of what we registered for. No time like the present! But we don't do any permanent changes to the place that we would be upset about leaving.

But think on the bright side. For those of you who can't afford a house right now, the market is changing. More houses are on the market for longer (24,000 I heard on News12), people being forced to lower their asking price to sell, interest rates changing. It's all pointing to prices on general going lower.

So save your $ for another year, and hopefully we'll all be homeowners before 2007 ends.

We live with my ILs. We plan on moving into an apartment soon but not yet. We probably won't buy a house for another few years. It's depressing how much money you need for a 20% downpayment on an 'inexpensive' house

Anyways, we also registered for neutral colors for our sheets and towels, etc. We didn't start using anything new yet..I don't know..I just want to wait until we have our own place again. Also, a lot of the stuff we really can't use here (pots & pans, etc)

We live in an apt. in Queens, so most of our gifts are still boxed up in one of my BMs attic's (she has a big house on LI).

We are planning to buy a house this fall/winter though so we're saving all the new stuff until then.

We live in an apartment by choice...we have no interest in a house....if and when we're ready to buy something bigger - it'll most likely be a condo/co-op.

ETA: we're city folks...
