From not doing anything at all? Does this happen?
No, never heard of that. FI has a herniated disc but it's definitely from a slip & fall accident years ago. It flares up now and again and he was in a car accident 4/30/05 so that aggravated it.
Maybe get an MRI to see what the problem is? FI got one last week and it shows just swelling.

I am getting one tomorrow...along w/ an x-ray (my doctor insisted). I never heard of it either. It may be just really bad swelling, but my doctor is concerned w/ the degree of motion I have.

It's probaly nothing serious if you have not been in an accident or had a hard fall.

It could have happened YEARS ago like when you were a kid and it's not bothering you utnil now. But yes, I've heard it's unlikely but it CAn happen if you turn the wrong way one day or just whatever. MANY people ahve heriniated discs and don't even know it because they have no symptoms.

Yes it can definintely happen... a lot of times its degenerative or from an injury that may have happened years ago that went unnoticed at the time... your body will compensate for as long as it can...
Loss of range of motion is usually a muscular problem though...
