Are they really expensive? I read somewhere that they have so many connections, that they get good deals and when you pay them , you're actually paying them with the left over money you saved by hiring one to begin with. I haven't heard of anyone on here using one. Just curious....

Re: Anyone hire a wedding planner?
We didn't - we're hiring a day-of coordinator - but I have to say that I wish we had hired a planner - I never priced it, but given how much work time I've spent doing wedding planning, I think it absolutely would have been worth it for career reasons.

Re: Anyone hire a wedding planner?
You know Jen, that's so weird because I was just thinking the samething this morning. I swear, that thought came to my mind as I was driving to work this morning.
I was thinking who would know better than someone who has planned a wedding and been through the process?

Re: Anyone hire a wedding planner?
FH mother offered to pay for a planner to coordinate the Rehersal and the Wedding day. I was just going to ask a close friend or one of my aunts to do it.
I have absolutely what one would cost. I have seen some of the ads on the right of this board for consultants. Does anyone have any recommendations? And idea of the cost?

Re: Anyone hire a wedding planner?
I didnt but I wish I did. There were so many things going on right before the wedding and the day of the wedding! So many details that I almost had a nervous breakdown, I wish I would have hired someone so I didnt have to deal with everything!

Re: Anyone hire a wedding planner?
peabody, another person on here that I thought was seperated at birth from me. lol. I was thinking, there would be no gift but invite them and their dh or fh and just be with me to make sure I am not forgetting anything. Or making sure it is done.

Re: Anyone hire a wedding planner?
reply- i'm with you Ciminok-although I'm jsut starting, I like wedding planning better than my real job.
I'm not sure if I could do it for others though-sometimes the stress makes people psycho.
I do think banquet manager is a good job though. . .
Anyway, I don't think too many on this board are looking for wedding planners, b/c the reason people use this board is because they are looking for ideas. The people who chose a wedding planner probably have no time or desire to post & research here-for the msot part, there are always exceptions.

See....that's what I mean! I am clueless, I am the first one to get married! I mean, say you are planning a budget of $30k on your wedding and the wedding planner gets you the SAME wedding for 25K (ok, maybe I am exagerrating, but who knows) then you just pay her the amt you saved. You have the same wedding MINUS the stress of planning it yourself. I wonder if this might just be too good to be true?

Re: Anyone hire a wedding planner?
I dont think they are worth it at all.My feeling is that the planner is going to push there people(vendors) only because they will make a % off them.I have come to learn do it yourself you will save more money. After you pay the planner your paying the same price on everything after all.Good luck Louise

Re: Anyone hire a wedding planner?
I have a wedding planner for my destination wedding in italy, and if i could afford to have one here too (we are also having a reception when we get back), I WOULD DO IT!!! IN A SECOND!!!!!!!
I'm ususlly a control freak, but FH and I extremely busy -- he owns and runs his own company, and I work a day job and am trying to run a side business -- and sometimes the thought of just having someone to handle the big stuff for our reception would be sooooo helpful. I don't think it would feel like i'm not planning my own wedding... its more like, they present me with choices based on what they think i would like, and then i choose. So, you'd stilll make most of the decisions, just eliminate the steps of doing all the research.
i LOVE our planner for the italy wedding. It takes such a load off!!

Re: Anyone hire a wedding planner?
Although I liked planning my wedding, I wish I had hired a planner. I have 2 jobs, and my time was limited. The $$$ would've been worth my sanity at some points! If nothing else, I really wish I had someone the day of!! Although I had great friends who helped more than I ever thought I would needed it..... the consultant/assistant/planner- certainly would've helped me when the limo driver minor, yet, not so minor situation.... Good luck!

Did you have a destination wedding? In that case, I can understand. When we first got engaged, we were originally planning a DW in the Dominican Republic so I figured I'd definitely need some help and I briefly hired an experienced wedding planner. Now, I love planning so this was very unnatural to me, but I felt the task of planning a wedding away would overwhelm me. Well, she was wonderful, but honestly, it was a big waste of money because of the way I am. I actually found out more information and coordinated more than she was able to. It was actually more stressful for me to have a planner because in addition to the planning stress, I stressed over the amount of money I was paying her and whether or not she was worth it!!!
So for me, no thanks, I will plan my wedding myself and love every minute of it!! (Well, maybe not EVERY minute!!! )

Re: Anyone hire a wedding planner?
Vassa of For the love of Weddings Vendor on this site) does this. SHe is there coordinating everything the day of your wedding. She calms your nerves and takes all of the worries away!! She is a family friend and I was sooooo lucky to have her there on my wedding day. She works at a local temple as well as a well-known bridal boutique in NYC and has been working with brides for years.
Her # is 897-3113 She is the BEST!!! (and she makes headpieces, tiaras and veils - She made MINE!!)

Re: Anyone hire a wedding planner?
I told my husband after our wedding that I would love to be a wedding planner!!.. I did our wedding with a 10K budget, and everyone that went said that they truly had the best time of their lives. I made a lot of the things like my place cards and favors and pew bows, and a gazillion tons of research.
*Shoves hand into the air* Pick me! I could do it!!

Re: Anyone hire a wedding planner?
Most of them charge a minimum of $10,000. They usually take between 10-15% of your wedding budget. I think wedding planners are good if you don't want to be involved in all the details of the party. Instead of a planner, I got a floral and event designer. He is able to coordinate the flowers, linens, and lighting. Those were the things that I was most nervous about doing myself.
