Hi everyone! I'm new to LI Weddings and need some advice....
I have my heart set on including my two dogs in my August 09' wedding. (My fiance' included them in the proposal, so why not the wedding? lol) I am still in the process of looking at halls, and most seem pretty accomodating to allow me to bring my dogs for an outdoor reception....
However, I recently visited Jericho Terrace, and fell in love with it - but they don't do outdoor ceremonies, so that means no dogs unless I can find somewhere else that will allow me to hold just the ceremony for about 130pp....and will allow me to include the dogs.
I looked at planting fields arboretum, but they only allow 40pp for an outdoor ceremony, and Old Westbury Gardens will not allow the dogs...
Has anyone been able to pull-off including their dogs in their ceremony? and if so...how did you do it? Where can we go?
I would LOVE to include my dogs---I have 3 pomerianans....white, orangey and black.
They are my life...I would love for them to walk down the isle...FH told me no right away before i even suggested it

Re: Anyone include your dog(s) in your ceremony?
My fiance wants to include our pit in our ceremony, but I really do not think the Fox Hollow would allow a pit bull to walk down the aisle!
(My pit is brindle like yours. I pointed to the screen and said, look, s/he looks like you! and she perked her ears up. She watches animal planet, why not LIW? )
Honestly - I would make sure you think about what happens if it's raining on your wedding day, and you have to hold it inside. Then you most likely won't be able to have your dogs in the ceremony at all. It's a GREAT idea, but I don't think it's one that is very easy to pull off.

We have three dogs ( yellow lab, choc. lab, and a boston terrier!)
There is NO way we can include them all in the ceremony, though Fh said we could.
We are going to use pics of them for table #'s!
Do whatever will make you happy...good luck!

that's pretty funny. Well, my FH knows better than to argue with me when it comes to the dogs lol. He thinks its a cool idea, but is also trying to be practical, and told me that if it is this difficult to include them, then maybe we should think twice...*sigh*
I'm still hopeful though - my sister offered her backyard for the ceremony, but my FH wants it to be somewhere by the water (I mean, its the only thing he's asked for, so I would feel bad not trying)...TBC

LOL I guess great minds think alike lol. We are Animal Planet junkies. I think I'm prepared for plan B if it rains, at least we will get to have pictures with them, but I'd rather plan for the best case scenario.
Everywhere I've called has said that as long as the ceremony is outside, it's not a problem to have the dogs. then I would have a family member take them back home. The Swan Club even said that they will allow them to be in their 'pavilion' for the ceremony, and put them in a kennel on the patio for the reception if necessary. (I think they would be more comfy at home though, so it is ceremony only) But I haven't heard great things about the food at Swan Club....can anyone comment on this?

I want to sooo bad. But I don't think my church will allow it. He's a 115 lb choc. lab so he's a big dude.

ohhhhhhh i wish i could include Rocky (golden retriever) in our ceremony!!! but our hall is a good 40 min drive from my parents house and double that to our house. i think itll be torture for him..........
we figured we would include his pic in the STDs and make a donation to the ASPCA or North Shore instead of favors. i might also work him into other aspects of the wedding......but i dont think he'll be able to participate first hand :(

Re: Anyone include your dog(s) in your ceremony?
I brought it up but they said the dogs would have to leave right after the ceremony cause they cannot have them in the building while food is being prepared & served. They have to follow health code regulations.
I wanted my dog to be my MOH
And my sister's dog (that she calls her daughter, so i call her my neice) would be the flower girl.

We don't have a flower girl so I would love for my dog to be the 'flower dog' lol...but I don't know if that would happen. I'm getting married in a church and they are pretty strick.

we are getting married at the watermill and as long as the weather is good we will have a out door ceremony. i had asked before we signed with them and as per the BM it's ok to have a dog there as long as it was outside. I will behaving my brother or someone run Hershey back to their house after the ceremony since the house is only 5 min away it works for us

my mom wants to include my dog (she even trained him to walk down an asile with a pillow in his mouth) but I just think when surrounded by that many people he will get nervous and act crazy and not listen.

Re: Anyone include your dog(s) in your ceremony?
ps: i will also add that if u have ur heart SET on a place, don't compromise that just for ur little guys. i know u love them, but like i said - u can always take photos with them in the morning. I'm a former Jericho Terrace bride and the place is just unbelievable. People still talk about our wedding & how wonderful the venue was(oooh the fooood!!!!) and we're married almost 2years.. U know urself...so u just need to decide what u'd regret more..not including ur dogs, or giving up the venue of ur dreams. I'd say still look around of course because u may find a place u love more that DOES allow them, but if ur heart keeps going back to JT, i dont know if i can say to skip on it!
