We have been looking to buy a condo or house, and i found some reasonable homes in central islip..does anyone know anything about this area..id really appreciate it..thanks.

my friend lives there and said the school was bad... people leave stolen veh in front of her home all the time... may gangs... she makes jokes about how bad it is... her parents are in the process of moving...

Personally, I would not live there. I went to FH's co-worker's baby shower and well to put it politely it left ALOT to be desired. And I would not have felt safe being outside alone. I don't know how far east you're willing to go but Holbrook has some reasonable condos. If you're looking in the Islip area try West Islip and I think Islip Terrace is supposed to be o.k. (but I don't really know the area so I'm just going by what I've heard). Good luck!

I have to agree and say I wouldnt live there either! I dont think its a safe area and also school district is not that great.

I used to work in that area (with the students who dropped out of school b/c of pregnancy (outreach)) and it is not one of the nicest areas and sometimes I did not feel too safe.
And- I know what you're goign through! We just bought a co-op b/c it was the ONLY thing we could afford in Nassau County! ahhhhhhh
