Anyone Know Anything About Bartending??????

if you're looking for a neighborhood bar type of position, then you definately dont need to waste your money on bartending school... people used to come into my parents bar and say that they had a 'bartenders liscence'... meanwhile they had less personality than a panel of wood, so really, they wasted their time and money. Like other people said, if you have the look and the personality, they will train you. Also most places have the usual call for certain drinks, so you pick those up pretty fast.

i started bartending 7 years ago... the night before Thanksgiving!!!! as everyone knows, its the busiest night of the year for bars.... one of the bartenders didnt show up, so my mom threw me behind the bar. i was like 'But i dont know how to make any drinks' and she said 'So Learn!!!!' i didnt have a choice at that moment and from then on, i began bartending. Anyway, i dont do it anymore (although i DO miss the $$$ and it was *usually* fun)... but Even with 7 years of experience, i still wouldnt go for a job in the city. I was good at what i did, and great with the crowd,,, but even with that, i still dont feel like i would be at the calibur that you need to be for most Hi profile places.

but neighborhood places are definately underrated when it comes to considering how much $$$ can be made there (there was Alot!!), so its definately worth checking out. like someone else said though, make sure you were your thick skin to work

I always stuck to neighborhood bars because i didnt care to learn al of the fancy drinks that high class places and restaurants served... beer, shots and the occasional martini or cosmo was good for me. Ive worked Irish Day in Long Beach, night before Thanksgiving and several other crazy nights down here and the benefit is I can walk to work!!!

hey kristin, you should do a guest night and invite all of us LIW girls down there!! well make you some money!!!

I felt the SAME way (about the drinks, etc)... i also lived upstairs from the bar, so ya cant beat having a commute like that

I felt the SAME way (about the drinks, etc)... i also lived upstairs from the bar, so ya cant beat having a commute like that
