Anyone know anything about Pilates?

Anyone know anything about Pilates?

Any suggestions for a beginner? I have a pass for 5 classes. Unfortunately my amazing class schedule conflicts with a lot of their drop-in schedule classes but I'm going to try to go 2 days a week.

I can't make any of the Mon classes, am trying to avoid Wed but I'm free Tues/Thurs from noon onwards, and all of Fri/Sat/Sun.

I'm looking for something to go to tomorrow but I have no idea where to begin!

I'm thinking maybe fitball? Or the mat class, but i was thinking about doing that on saturday? or the body conditioning?

Re: Anyone know anything about Pilates?

I have been doing Pilates for about 4 years. I would suggest def taking a beginner class 2-3 times a week to familiarize yourself.

Its really important to perform the different exercises the right way - and sometimes the mat classes have so many people that the instructor is not able to correct you. If possible, try to take a class that doesnt fill up too easily.

Is it better to do the same class 2x a week or 2 different classes 1x a week?

Same. They go by level. So the beginner classes will be pretty much the same. Different 'moves' fall into different levels.
Where are you taking the classes? Is it at a gym?
IMO - if you decide you really like it - it would be worth checking out an actual pilates studio b/c they usually have mat classes that are much much smaller in size and the instructors are certified pilates instructors. Sometimes the gyms only have a person who knows how to do pilates but isnt necessarily certified to teach.

Pilates is awesome. It's easy to catch on... its relaxing and an amazing workout. Start out by standing in the back of the class- after the first couple classes you'll get the hang of if. Make sure you stretch first or you're gonna be in pain!

Re: Anyone know anything about Pilates?

It's a Pilates and Yoga Center. FH won me a pass for 5 classes last year at a silent auction and it's getting ready to expire!

If I like it I can buy more sessions or a pack of sessions. But, right now I don't have a clue what I'm doing and I've never been to a real exercise class. I have a DVD or two and an elliptical in our apt with some weights and a ball.
