Anyone know anything about the BC shot??

I have been considering getting this shot every 3 months rather than taking a pill everyday. I asked my gyno about it and she said that you dont get your period on the shot. (which sounds like a plus to me!) I also asked about gaining weight on it because I've heard that about the shot, and her answer was that the shot has no calories or fat in it (hahaha)....it may change your eating patterns but its up to you to acknowledge that and not let it get the best of you.
But im wondering if anyone has any personal experience with the shot? Or knows someone who has gotten it.

are you talking about depoprovera? I was on that a few years ago and I seriously recommend NOT getting it. Besides the fact that regardless of the fact that i was working out everyday and eating well i gained ALOT of weight even within the first week, my clothes wouldn't even fit. ALso it completely stops your period which yes sounds great but it is seriously not good for you, and also a big reason for the weight gain.

But do research on it and you'll see that it causes EXTREMELY bad mood swings and i dont mean normal ones, and alot of other problems.

It was the worst thing and i wish i never went on it.

I've never used it, but a good friend of mine was on it for a while. She LOVED it, and had no problem with weight gain - she knew it might happen so she just made sure to keep up her same eating habits and workout routine.
As far as not getting your period, if it wasn't safe to not get it for a little while, your doctor would tell you that.

no what the doctor said is wrong, the whole well as long as you eat well and all that bc i was eating very well and like i said i was working out and nothing helped.

When you don't get your period, its bc its fooling your body to think you are pregnant and that is how you don't get pregnant. Also after the 3 months and if you stop dont think you go back to a normal period. After that i still didnt get it for a while BUT THEN i was getting it every week, i would get it for a long period of time, and it was all messed up for a long time

It also causes severe depression. I never believe those things so didn't think too much of it...Honestly looking back at the time i was on depoprovera i went CRAZY!!! i dont know what was wrong with me.

Also they use depoprovera now to help with sex abusers urges

Not getting your period so many times can cause blood clots which you can die from. I wouldn't trust it at all. I agree with you Denise.

Oh my god....I think you guys just scared me out of getting the shot.

if you want do your own research on it and see what you find.

I know a couple of other girls who also did this and they had bad experiences with it.

well, I think talking to people and getting their personal experiences with it is probably the best kind of research you can do with something like this. Thats why I confided in all my wonderful ladies here!

Sorry I have no advice about the shot but everyone seemed to have given you good helpful advice

but I was wondering anyone every go on NuvaRing

you should try that cause all you have to do is take if out every 3 weeks to get oyur period and then put another on in...

I want to switched to it but I dont know anyone who has tried it before...any thoughts about it??

i agree! i was on seasonal for a few months cause the pill was a pain everyday but my body just didnt feel right and ya i got my period every 3 months but it was HORRIBLE when i did get it ..i came off it cause i didnt trust it your body needs to 'regulate' every month
