I don't believe so. I'm a pharamacist you think I would know this for sure but working in retail I don't deal with this stuff much so you kind of forget the stuff you learned but don't use.

I know they women get steroid shots late in pregnancy to help develop baby's lungs if they have to deliver early but that's the extent of what I know off the top of my head.

I am having major foot problems which a cortisone injection usually helps so I will be off to the doc to see what my options are. I will have to check my books at work tomorrow to see what I can do.

Sandra, I doubt that cortisone shots are suitable for preggos because it stays in your system for a while. Any long term use of steroids during pregnancy can affect the baby and suppress that adrenal function of the baby. Sorry - about the pain you wish relieved. Ask your doctor what may be safe, though.

Monkeybride, do you know about the side-effects of cortisone shots? I had foot surgery last April, and received a cortisone shot. Though it relieved the discomfort, I was left with this clear 'path' in the area where I was injected. I'm medium/tanned-skinned, and have a branch-like light-toned path. Any info is great! TIA.

Well I went to the doc today about my foot and he wasn't completely opposed to local cortisone injections in my foot.
We are going to try other non medical interventions first because I really don't want the injection while pregnant but just thought you would like to know that he didn't rule it out as an option.
I would check with my OB office before having it done just to be 100% but I trust my regular doctor so I'm sure he's right.

That's interesting. I have never heard of that but I don't deal with people who have cortisone injections very often. I know I can't see anything from mine but I am pretty pale white. I wonder if its just some scar tissue at the injection site?

I have seen online that in darker people, one might notice discoloration at the site of injection, but everywhere I look, the info is very vague. I just want to know if I can put some sort of cream, or something, to return it to normal--- unless it's permanent??

One other thing is that it looks gaunt compared to the other foot (which wasn't injected), in the same area.

Re: Anyone know if it's safe to get cortisone injections

Earlier in my pregnancy I was having trouble with my shoulder, and both my regular dr and my OB said I could get the cortizone if needed. My OB asked that I try to do without as there is no real testing on how it would affect your pregnancy, but there is no known harm it would cause.

Thanks girls... I guess I can hold off so I will. Thankfully, I don't need it for any kind of pain... I have Alopecia Areata... and it appears to be brought on by stress. Well... lately things have been super stressful at work and my hair has started falling out again. Yes, I *literally* lose my hair when I get stressed.

I had to have cortisone injections in my scalp, directly into the bald spots and eventually my hair grew back (thank god!) but it's starting again. The bald spots aren't too big right now, but it takes sooooo long for the hair to grow back once it's gone that - were it not for me being preggo - I would start the injections right now and hopefully I wouldn't lose anymore.

But it looks like I'll have to just wait out the pg and hope the hair loss doesn't get really bad.

Oh no! Just try to relax, don't let work get to you. I am beginning to realize no job is worth affecting our health.
Any chance you can take a few sick days just to relax? I finally had to do that. I was actually sick last week but today I just needed an extra day and I think I finally feel better.

Hang in there.

Thanks... I could definitely take a few days here and there but I also need to hoard my time for maternity leave so I'm kinda stuck on that part.

But I know I have to relax and try not to let work get to me... if it keeps up, I think I will call out a couple of days!
