Re: Anyone know of a reputable Boston Terrier breeder?

ARE YOU GETTING ONE!!!! I love them!!!

We got ours at Home of the Puppies in Queens...and looking back - they probably get their dogs from puppy mills...but I didn't know too much about it...but they do offer a 5 year guarentee for genetic defects...if you go to their vet...we lived in Queens...so that wasn't bad for us...

We are looking for another and I have found this is a good way to find good breeders...talk to the local rescue...there is a huge waiting list at ours...but she did have a name of a woman that breeds for the good of the breed...

We looked up online some breeders that ship...and I found some in Oklahoma...so I contacted the OK rescue and she said there are no reputable breeders in OK (to her knowldge)

people that show BTs are the best people to go to...if they have a litter...they will sell the puppies that aren't show quality...but they don't overbreed or inbreed...

let me know if you have any questions...

and here are some pics to tempt you even more!!

Oh my gosh your BT is adorable! Yes I really want one but I would love to find someone on LI to buy from. I have found a bunch of interesting resources on the internet but I want to see the pup before bringing it home.

So does your BT behave well? I have heard that they are great dogs and they don't really shed. So cute.

I hope my DH can be talked into a BT instead of the Bulldog that he wants.

I wanted a bulldog but I've heard that they are so hard to take care of, and it kind of scares me since this will be my first dog. Bulldogs tend to have breathing problems, can be difficult to train and are extremely sensitive to the weather but I love them. They have so much personality and charm.

they shed...but the hair is so short you barely notice...but it is there...they are SO well behaved...he jumps on people sometimes...thats his only bad quality...but they learn VERY quickly...they are very smart and super friendly. Shamee also has 3 BTs...I don't know where she got them...but they were on LI

I couldn't seem to find a LI rescue to help find a breeder

http://www.breeders.net/find.php

but please check it out to make sure it is not a puppymill...overbreeding can lead to problems later on for you...and its just not right for a dog to be preggo all the time...BTs HAVE to be born by c-section...so its tough on the mommy

Yabbo - why do they have to be born by C section? What did people do back in the dark ages? I'm just curious. BTW both your cat and dog are adorable, I guess they get along really well!

I really want an Elvis dog now, call Vin and convince him Erica!!!!

If I was to get one, I think I would have to name it Elvis, since no other name would see right.

lol...the dog is SO scared of the cat...the look in his eye says...help get me out!!! but they do get along to some extent - she wants to sit next to him...he wants to run

Bostons are only about 100 years old...so not sure what they did for births back then...I think b/c of their head they have to be born by C-section

ETS: Michelle of course you should name him Elvistoo...

Re: Anyone know of a reputable Boston Terrier breeder?

I have three - all different ages...

Gizmo (7) I bought from a breeder in Selden named Arl Ray's Puppies. I checked with her a few years back and she was not breeding Boston's anymore. She was in excellent health when we got her, not so much as a flea on her. Wonderful dog - incredibly loving.

Angel (2) Bob bought from Puppy Depot in Coram - STAY AWAY FROM THERE!! They sell sick dogs and have a relationship with a corrupt Vet facility close to their location that will sign off that the dog is healthy. Angel was almost dead when he brought her home - what was he thinking?!? She had everything under the sun; earmites, two types of worms, a bronchial infection, Parvo, etc. It took hundreds of hundreds of dollars to get her to good health (money that was not refunded by them - we had to take them to small court to make them pay up!). I refused to give her back or get another puppy in exchange (the deal they offered me when I stormed in there the day after he brought her home) because I knew they would do nothing and let her die. She is much smaller in size as compared to normal sized Bostons because her health issues stunted her development. I wouldn't trade her for the world now.

Sprinkles (5 months) we got from a pet shop (gasp!! ) called Pete's Pet Shop in East Patchogue on Route 112. She had a 'minor' run from the nose when we got her, but nothing serious and it was gone within a day or so. She is tremendous!! Eats like a little hog and even snorts like a typical boston. She's bigger than Angel at 5 months!! Pete's had a great policy concerning health coverage and they were very helpful and clean. Outside of the small run from the nose, not a thing wrong with her. No worms, nada!

The little one's love each other to pieces and they all get along great with the cat and my mother's cats when they go visiting at Grandma's. Gizmo prefers Sprinkles over Angel because Angel is a little high strung (typical for the breed).

Bostons are the best. They are incredibly loving, want to be near you all the time, they crave attention and want to cuddle/snuggle constantly. They are great with kids and love to take rides in the car. They are very possessive of their toys though and many a 'cat' fight has broken out over who has the favorite stuffy. They also make great watchdogs and are very protective of their homes.

Good luck!!!
