Anyone know of anyone that got married 'before' they actually got married??

We did. We got married at Town Hall on May 12th of this year (insurance reasons) Our 'real' wedding is on Sept. 27th. Only our very close family and friends know that we are already married. Our Reverend is happy to do our ceremony in Sept. anyway. She said she will have something for us and our witnesses to sign anyway.

FH and I are currently 'discussing' this option because I am unemployed (we had to move for his job) and I need health insurance. We are in a dilemma though because of the whole Catholic issue. Our church is so anal they even asked for my records from my berevement counselor because 'psychological issues' are grounds for an annulment. So please keep posting so I can show my church it has been done in the diocese before!!

if you are going to do it, you have to look at it from the perspective that there is a legal part of marriage and a religious part. The church marries u before God and at the same times signs the paperwork for you to be legally married. Town hall just does the part so the govt can recognize u as married. I do not see anythign wrong with going to town hall and saying the words and then having a religious ceremony later.
