Anyone know who can, or how to, find out an IP address?

Anyone know who can, or how to, find out an IP address?

Getting harassing emails at work and don't know if that is something I can do myself, or you need permission or something.

if your in outlook, look at the properties of the emial message and it will show you the header which is the originating sender.

But I mean as far as finding out which computer it is coming from, like from another company or something? Like what Ron did w/ Hugz/320, I think.

Ask your IT department...they should be able to find out for you. There are logs and such that are kept on the mail server.

I agree.. DEF get your IT dept. involved. Don't do it yourself.

What email program are you using? If you're in Outlook:
1. Open the email
2. Go to View on the toolbar
3. Select Message options
4. At the bottom of the options pop up-there should be a field for internet headers-in this field, it should tell you where the email originated from.

your IT dept should have no problem...

someone I 'knew' (had my in their email address list) got a virus and it sent me 4000 emails!!!!

DH found it and was able to get in touch with optimum online (the senders service - even though it was blocked out) and globix who handles a lot of company's servers...



IF it is coming from a websire mail...it will be harder...you will have to contact that company...

OK, so I reported it to HR, but they said they can't do anything until they can prove that it is the girl I think it is. I got two different emails from two different hotmail addresses, both IP addresses match. Does that mean it is coming from the same computer? And can I trace the location of the computer?

If it's the same ip address-it's the same computer. You shouldn't be able to track where that computer is, i.e., an address but you should be able to track the service provider.

Service provider meaning Hotmail? That is the email provider.

Hotmail is also the service provider...for example, if you have an Optonline account, the service provider is Optimum Online.
It should show like this:
216.20.75.13 by by2fd.bay2.hotmail.msn.com
