I made my own reception invites. It was pretty easy. I bought the paper from walmart and it had a webpage on the box that showed me what to do with the type of paper I bought. I only cost 14 bucks. No software required!

I made everything in the save the date's except for the actual magnet that I included. I used word and got the paper from paper-source.com Printed out pics from our engagement shoot, and got to work with the scissors and scrapbooking aisle at the Rag Shop...here are pics...

I attached my STD magnets to cards and sent them out. Don't worry, you won't need extra postage.

We made our own! Well, FH did them. He designed the magnet pic in Photoshop and we printed them out and attached them to the magnets. We are in the process of making the card to go w/ the magnet.

We made our own, tho they weren't magnets. I just used MS Word with a pretty font and a nice pic of us. Then I printed them out on pretty paper from Wal-Mart. Easy and inexpensive!!

You need a good printer though - I have a photo printer, and that worked best (if you're making magnets or printing pictures) - otherwise, a good printer with strong ink will do for the text and designs if any.

I bought all the supplies from Rag Shop...
and came out to about $50 with the paper, scissors, glue, tape, etc.

The cards were card stock and envelopes from paper-source.com - for 120 of each it ran me about $30 all together

STD magnets from creativemontage.com - $58 including shipping, 5 designs and printing

No extra postage

I think we spent about $50 total on our STD's. We bought everything at Staples.

1 pack of Business card size glossy paper (it comes in 8x10 w/ punch-outs)
1 pack of 100 Magnets w/ sticky back, extra Ink for printer (which we didn't need)

We still need to buy cards to print info on, envelopes and postage to send them out.

Re: Anyone make their own std's?

How does it work when you make the magnets?? Do you put the acutal magnet through the printer or so you use a paper that is a peel of sticker and attach it to the magnets?? I am confused.

Staples sells business-card paper which is an 8x10 sheet of glossy paper (like photo paper) but it has perforations which are business-card size so you just punch them out after you print... I think there are 10 or 12 per page. Then you buy the magnets, which have a sticky side so you just peel off the sticker and attach what you printed! I thought it would be complicated too when someone explained it, but it's so easy and they come out great!

Re: Anyone make their own std's?

You can also buy magnet business card paper for the ink jet printer (I got it at magnetvalley.com). I had trouble with my printer lining up the scoring properly - apparently this is an issue with hp printers. I ended up using magnet paper without the scoring (also from magnetvalley) It is 8.5x11 paper that is magnet backed and it goes thru the printer. Comes in glossy or matte - i used glossy. I then cut out my magnets with an x-acto knife. Easy-cheesy and they came out great! we got so many compliments!

I designed the magnets in powerpoint. I did 10 per page and lined them up so I had to make very few cuts with the knife.

I made the cards using cardstock paper and envelopes I got at Staples. (they were ecru and embossed, 2 to a page) I made 2 slits in the front of the card and slipped the magnet in (got that idea on LIW!!!). The inside had hotel and aiport info and info about our website.

FM me if you want more info!

Business card size so the paper fits perfectly over them. Although since my FH noticed a few hung over the edge so he cut the edge off w/ an exacto knife.

Re: Anyone make their own std's?

If you want to do something with small printed photos, Shutterfly is great. We laid out 6 of our engagement photos in a big rectangle in Photoshop and printed out a bunch of 4x6's for 8 bucks! (Took a lot of time cutting them with an exacto knife, though). We attached them with double-stick tape to brochures our friend helped design in Quark, printed them out on heavy paper and got Vistaprint magnets. Everything mailed with regular postage and we got many compliments.
