Anyone married by a friend?

Just wondering if anyone knew of a way to have a friend be the officiant for your wedding. Taking the online class? Does NY accept that?

I will be maried by a friend, but he's a RC priest.

We wanted to do this but DH's childhood friend isn't finished with the seminary yet. When he finishes, we will probably go to Poland and have a vow renewal and have him offer a blessing.

Yes, we were married by a friend that we had ordained online. He had to get some special papers and go down to city hall here in NYC and be put into the officiant registary. It was all perfectly legal and we had no problems.
