Just wondering how it feels to live so far away from the city....
Hi, I just moved about 2 years ago from Nassau to Suffolk. It's really not that bad. It also depends on how frequently you go to the city. As for me, I love it out here and I can still make it to the city on weekends. How far out are you planning on moving?
It depends on where you move to. I live in Western Suffolk and it is only an hour to NYC and less then that on an express train. I love it here... a little less crowded.
we are planning on moving to suffolk - i grew up in nassau and right now live in nyc....its gonna be a bit of a transition - especially if you have to commute into the city but as my FI constantly points out - suffolk has way less traffic lights and much bigger parking lots than nassau.

I moved from the city to Suffolk. It was a huge adjustment and I really miss the city. There are some pluses, though. There is not much traffic where I live. When I go shopping, the salespeople out here are so much nicer. I'm in the city a lot but it is not the same as when I lived there. I miss it so much sometimes!

What areas in Suffolk are you looking into?
Do live in Manhattan b/c you work there - it's so expensive...i couldn't imagine doing it w/o 5 roommates!
I pointed to my FI the same points! he's from brooklyn...so he's got attachments to it....for me, roosevelt field..lol...
I moved to Ronkonkoma from Nassau cuz I was working there. Then I got laid off and my new job is in NYC. It's 2 hours door to door which makes 4 hours per day commuting. I think Suffolk is great if you work on the island, or work in NYC but live in western Suffolk. The traffic is much better in Suffolk, but I plan to move back to Nassau as soon as my lease is up.

I lived in Nassau my whole life with my family and just bought a townhouse in Suffolk. My FH lives there now and I am going to move in after the wedding. It will be stange to move to Suffolk but it is closer to both of our jobs and the prices were a little less expensive in Suffolk. Good luck!

I have just recently moved to Wantagh from the city. It is a big change but for me it is well worth it. I have a home I can finally call a home and enjoy for a very long time. I sure all will work out.
