We did it. But we didn't take away any dancing time... it was during the dinner. People loved it.
But I understand why people don't do them. I know they do it for sweet 16s and stuff.... but those are more family and individual oriented. the wedding ones should be more couple related. I personally like them... they are a chance for a real personal touch to the wedding. seeing where the bride and groom came from and then coming together.... I think it's sweet. And I like to see them at other weddings I go to also. it's nice to see the old pics of people and a couple.
I def prefer them to be shown during dinner though. I wouldn't want party time taken away.
FH and I are doing one to honor all of our granparents because all of our grandparents have passed. So we're showing photos of them with us as kids. We were also planning on doing it during some seated portion of the evening. This is actually a huge priority for us, it's one of the only and most personal ways we are truly individualizing our wedding.
I know my family and his family are going to appreciate the gesture. And for those few who aren't interested, they're free to chat amongst themselves, I'm not forcing anyone to watch.
Aww that really is a sweet and touching thing to do. I'll bet you will have a few tears being shed all around.
This just shows EXACTLY what I mean by the 'having a real personal touch' to the wedding. It's like a little window into the lives of the bride and groom... more so than any favor or CP etc can be.

I'm not doing it I went to a wedding where they had it an to be honest nobody watched it really because they were dancing and having fun
wow! they played it while the dance floor was open and music was on?? yea... that's not the best timing. I can see why people didn't watch it or pay any attention.

Yeah, we thought it was important. I never knew my mom's parents, only my dad's, and of those 6 granparents betwent he two of us, the last 3 of them passed in the 5 years we've been together. So some people do bouquet charms or photos on the tables... but since none of them can be there physcially, it's the best way we could think of to bring all 6 of them to the celebration

We are not planning on having one. They are nice, but I find a lot of the times when there is one at a wedding i am at, I don't pay attention for the entire thing. I also wouldn't want to take away from the dancing.

We didn't do one. It just wasn't for us, everyone has their own reasons for doing/not doing it. There's no right or wrong with this.

I didn't do one. It sounds more like a bar/bat mitzvah thing to me. When it's a wedding and a couple, it seems like it's more about the future than the past. (Unless you've known each other since childhood, in which case it could be pretty cute.)
A lot of people put them into their wedding videos, so you could always do that without boring...err I mean showing it to... all your guests.
hmmmm.....
well all i can say is we did it during dinner and people loved it
we had some childhood ics us first dating, when he propsed..some with dh's grandfather who is no longer here..people clapped during it and after and we got a great copy of it
i totally get it if u dont want one i just wanted to say noone was bored during ours

Umm.. well that's because you never asked my opinion on it. I've been meaning to tell you G. I was bored out of my mind during it!!!!
But really... I wanted to say.. I think it's soo sweet that his grandfather was in it too. It's a cute way to have his GF there at the wedding too. And i'll bet it was meaningful to the rest of the family as well.

Agreed! Theres no right or wrong reason for having (or not having) a video montage. My FH and I are doing one because we are both in the media business (he does photography and I do videos) and that is a big part of our wedding (Life in photos!) so we wanted to do a montage of not just photos of us but also of our family and friends. We are also making it funny and almost like a short mini film. And I've been to a bunch of weddings that had the montage and I wasnt bored, in fact, some of the montags brought me to tears.
But i can also see how people may not want to have these photo montages esp if it cuts during dancing time. I've actually been to a sweet 16 that did a photo montag and i started laughing! Really 16? You dont have enough pictures to have a photo montag! It was so silly!
