We're not doing either and we're not doing anything to replace them. I find them both tacky traditions and I don't want to do them.

Re: Anyone Not Doing
we are not doing the garter or bouquet toss. My FH and i don't like the idea of him up my skirt in front of all our families and friends :) just isn't classy in our opinion! i know a lot of people aren't doing those traditions anymore-some don't even have a cake cutting or walk in under the bridal party!
i've seen an anniversary dance where all couples get on the dance floor and the ones who are married the longest wins the throw away bouquet. I like that idea. we are getting married on my grandparents wedding anniversary so we will probably do something to honor them.

I'm gonna throw the bouquet, but we're not doing a garter toss because it gets made into such a raunchy scene. We're not replacing it with anything.

Re: Anyone Not Doing
We haven't decided what to do yet - I lways imagined myself throwing my bo-k but now that I'm older (and well past age 5) I hate the thought of humiliating my single friends.
Def no garter toss - FI said NO way!

Re: Anyone Not Doing
We are not doing it. Since my parents have done so much for us (not just money but staying at our apartment to wait for our furniture, their support with the whole wedding process, etc.), FI and I is going to give a Thank You speech to my parents and then present my mom with a smaller version of my boo-k and my dad with a garter.

We're not doing any of those. We're dedicating our parents wedding song in honor of them and the mothers will get flowers.

Re: Anyone Not Doing
We're not doing it either. I always hated being dragged up there as a single and at FSIL's wedding I caught the bouquet, I mean fell literally into my hands. FH did NOT catch the garter. Having some 19 year old kid sliding his hands up my leg with the DJ encouraging everyone to yell 'HIGHER, HIGHER....' was the single most humiliating experience of my life!! I would never want to torture any of my friends or relatives like that!
We're doing the anniversary dance.

Re: Anyone Not Doing
we are not doing it either... i find it a bit tacky also i think we are doing something else.... all married couples married more than 1 year all on the dance floor and the band will gradually tell those who have been married 2 years 5 years, 10 years to leave the couple married the longest will remain and get the bouquet....which i think is my grandparents

Re: Anyone Not Doing
I'm throwing the bouquet, but not the garter. At my cousin's wedding 2 years ago, I caught the bouquet, and tradition held up and I am the first one married from who was there

I am kind of sad about not doing the bq toss, but I feel like the guests never want to get up for it anyway. It slows everything down and stops the dancing.

I was at a wedding where the groom wanted to play a joke and started pulling out other things from under the bride's dress. It became humorous when he pulled out a vibrator and said, won't be needing that anymore.
I too will not be doing either of these. Simply because we are the last of our circle of friends to get married.

Re: Anyone Not Doing
He is going to get my garter. But no toss for the bo-k or the garter.
We are going to give 2 bouquets and 2 garters out to our couples of honor. Our Best Man and his wife and my MOH and her husband. We will say a few words to them and dedicate their wedding song to them.

Re: Anyone Not Doing
FH is removing the garter, but instead of the toss's we are going to give both items to the couple married the longest, and then have him put the garter on her and they will dance after that.... The best part is the couple married the longest is the best - they are SOO much fun - so down to earth - I really think they will get into the whole garter thing...

Re: Anyone Not Doing
I didn't throw my bouquet, but DH took the garter off. We did the anniversary dance, and the winning couple got the bouquet and throwaway garter. It was a really nice touch!
