Anyone NOT doing flowers at the Church?

The church that I am getting married at is not our parish. We picked it bc it was close to our reception and we wanted to make it convenient for our guests. I hate to say it, but the church is not that pretty. (okay, I think it's ugly). At first I was planning on doing two arrangements at the altar and about 5 pew markers on each side. But, I was thinking about it over the weekend, and I was thinking I'd much rather spend that church money at the reception instead.

Would it be weird if I didn't do anything at the church? I was thinking maybe a custom runner instead....

What do you think ladies?

Re: Anyone NOT doing flowers at the Church?

We arent doing any flowers at the church - just 6 pew bows (3 on each side) and an aisle runner (nothing special - provided by limo co). We couldnt justify spending the $$$ for a 20 minute ceremony.

Its not our parish either, but close to our house and in a good neighborhood.

Re: Anyone NOT doing flowers at the Church?

To tell you the truth I wouldn't have flowers at my ceremony either if the hall wasn't throwing them in. I didn't want to 'waste' the money when people would be at the chapel for a half hour and the reception for 4.

Re: Anyone NOT doing flowers at the Church?

Ask your church if they have flowers there already.
Mine said that thier personal weekly flowers come in every friday and we don't have to buy flowers if we don't want to.
So we're not.
We are making our own pew bows to save money.

Thanks guys!

Re: Anyone NOT doing flowers at the Church?

Same here. No alter arrangements at all. No pew bows either. Red Roses attached to the pews with satin ribbon. Red rose petals heavily sprinkles on the outside of the runner. I agree that for a 20 minute ceremony you can skip the $$$ arrangements.

Re: Anyone NOT doing flowers at the Church?

pew bows to mark the reserved pews and a runner we can keep, maybe throw it under our first X-mas tree or something. but no flowers-the chapel we're using in my opinion looks better without flowers

Re: Anyone NOT doing flowers at the Church?

The only flowers we are doing at the church is the bouquet for the blessed mother. Other than that it's just pre bows that I will make myself.

Re: Anyone NOT doing flowers at the Church?

My church costs a fortune and included in that is altar flowers. We may do pew bows. I am not sure if we would have had flowers if they were not included - seems like an okay place to cut some funds down!

Re: Anyone NOT doing flowers at the Church?

Ok...you guys will think I am crazy, but I don't do this wedding thing very often and I have a very ridiculous question to ask. Please don't laugh, but what the hell is a RUNNER????

Seriously I hear the word all of the time and I know it has something to do with limos. I problably know what it is, just not by name.

Re: Anyone NOT doing flowers at the Church?

I didn't want to spend the $$ and found out that I can't put flowers in the church anyway. I'm getting marries during Lent and there are different rules at that time of year. Also, I think my FG is not allowed to drop petals either...

Usually fabric or paper to walk down the aisle on. But my Pastor said most of the paper ones ripped and quite a few brides have tripped or slid on them because of the church floor.
Definately not doing flowers for a quick deal! Might do pew bows but I haven't decided yet!

Re: Anyone NOT doing flowers at the Church?

We're thinking about not doing church flowers. We're getting married the day after Confirmation, so there should already be some extra flowers in the church anyway. I know my mom wants us to have altar arrangements, but it's really not something I want to spend money on.

Re: Anyone NOT doing flowers at the Church?

I'm not doing flowers at the church... The church we are getting married in is always bringing in flowers and besides we are getting married the end of April... Easter is right before that... And I feel that the church it's self is beautiful enough for the the 1 hour that we are going to be there ....

I've heard a lot of times the FG isn't allowed to drop petals. And thats not just regarding church rules. We are actually getting married at the hall and a lot of places said no to FG and throwing flowers.

Thank goodness Majestic Gardens didn't say that to me!

I feel the same way. I thought people would think I was crazy for thinking about not doing flowers at the church!! I am glad to see I am not the only one thinking about this.
