Anyone not doing STDs or only sending to OOT guests?

We weren't married to the idea of STDs and after a number of friends told me they think they are annoying and/or unnecessary, we decided against them and just plan to send an e-mail out with details (haven't done this yet but plan to).

The thing is, we have a decent amount of OOT guests and I want to relay information about hotel blocking. Has anyone done STDs just for OOT guests?

Are there any past brides that did not do STDs? Did you get positive or negative responses?

I wrote on my engagement party invitations '...and save the date for the wedding!! 6-6-10' or something like that. those were my STDs

i understand your pt. ... i mean im not crazy about them either but its just a way of giving proper notice to people who you really want there or care about...

i know your friends are saying its annoying but they were informed nonetheless...

i mean you are getting married a week after July 4th... at least in my industry, accounting, many of us are running for the next flight to anywhere but here...

if you really want a family member/friend to be in attendance.. a STD cant hurt... its more paper/stamps involved but its a nice ' HEY MY WEDDING IS APPROACHING' alert...

an insert in the invite (6months before) ...ahhhh i dunno if thats best.....

may be a little late / just in time notice .. but that will depend if your guest are not like me.... bargain hunters that book their vacations early
