Anyone not finding a gown you like in a magazine....
Have any of you girls NOT found a gown that you love in a magazine yet? I keep looking and I feel that they're all the same or they only have a few aspects that I like, but not the whole package. I did find a dress online that was exactly what I was imagining, but I just looked up the price and its about double what I was hoping to spend. I haven't gone to try anything yet, but I feel like I should have some idea first. Is anyone else having/ did anyone have this problem?

I didn't have that problem but I wouldn't worry about it. You will probably have to try on tons of dresses anyway (oh, the agony! ) before you find the one and chance are, it won't look anything like what you are imagining. So keep an open mind I haven't gone dress shopping yet but I've seen that this is what happens with many brides!

Re: Anyone not finding a gown you like in a magazine....
the gown that i bought was actually one that i loved in a picture, but i found that gowns that i loved i hated on and gowns that i never thought that i would like i liked. i think that you should go and try on all different styles because you may suprise yourself in what you like. it is so hard to tell from a picture in a magazine. i would suggest going at a time when the bridal salon may not be busy so you can take as much time as you need. i spent 2 hours at bridal reflections in massapequa and they were great there.

I felt the same way, as a matter of fact I haven't looked at any bridal magazines in a couple of months. I found my gown at Renates in Lindenhurst. They were great and their price were amazing. I actually ordered a gown in a style I thought would look awful on me, but when I put it on it looked like it was made for me. Good luck with the search, and try everything on you will be surprised how some of these dresses really look on.

I bought my gown almost six months ago and still have yet to find it in a magazine. Since you said you found aspects of gowns that you like, honestly, I think that's all you need to start shopping!
I don't think you can make a decision based on what you see in a magazine, because you really can't tell with a wedding gown unless you try it on. If you check on the newlywed board, they have a thread called You vs. the Model and quite a few brides have said that if they saw the picture of their gown first they never would have bought it because the model didn't do the gown justice. Check it out, you'll feel better. Good luck!

I actually found my gown before I saw it in a magazine. I think the magazines help you see gowns that you like, but you still don't know if they will look good on. So don't worry going in person is always more productive!

Maybe you are just ahead of the times and your dress hasn't been designed yet. I'd rip out the dresses that have parts of what you like and show them to the salon, maybe they know if it was put together yet.

You're not alone!
When I bought my first wedding magazine, I was sooo excited to flip through the pages and look at gowns! I went through the whole thing without seeing a single gown that I liked! I too was really disappointed!! I actually had much better luck looking through dresses on theknot.com and modernbride.com - you get a much bigger selection, and can tailor the search by price, silhouette, sleeve length, etc. As the ladies on here have said, it is very difficult to judge a dress by a picture. The pictures sometimes do not do the dress justice, and you need to try it on to Really see if you like it! (I never would have chosen my dress from the picture!)

I had the same problem! I found that all of the gowns in mags were too fancy for the most part (for my taste at least) But everyone is different. Once you go shopping you will fine, just bring pictures that have something you like, either the top or bottom of the dress and they can help you! Good luck!

I didn't like many gowns in magazines either. The few that I did like, I hated when I tried them on. The one that I ende up buying was actually in the magazine and I didn't even notice it. Gowns look a lot different when they are on you.

Don't worry. I swore I would NEVER wear a strapless gown, so I chose all of these other gowns from the magazines. Turns out that they all looked terrible on me and I went with a strapless gown.
Also, my designer does not use models, only mannequins, so I would have never picked my gown out of a magazine. Good luck! Just get out there and start trying on :)

Thanks!! I'm feeling better about it. Friends and family that I've talked to have all asked if I have a ton of magazine rip outs of dresses that I like, and it made me realize that I have none! I'm really looking forward to going to a bridal salon and having the professionals help me out!
