Anyone not get the cake from the RH?

I am seriously considering ordering the cake separately from a bakery that I love- cake is a big thing in my family lol- anyhow- i have noooo idea how much a wedding cake should cost- did anyone order one from a bakery and if you dont mind- how much did you pay (and how many people did it serve) and how was it?

thank you so much

You might not want to spend money on a cake, not to many people eat the cake anyway. If you need to save money don't bother. Get a special cake when you come back from your HM, if you really love that bakery.

do you want fondant or buttercream

fondant gets expensive...average is $6-8 a slice(basically what most places charge) big named cake designers charge $8-12 a slice and higher for complicated designs.

However, In long island you can find it for about $4.50-6 a slice especially in suffolk county. Good luck

buttercream is alot less

I dont think I will be getting my cake from my RH, nothing against them but I want a certain cake that I can only get from an outside bakery bec my RH will prob charge me 10x to get it from them than if I was to go to another bakery.

It's included in mine and my RH uses a very good bakery in Setauket. I showed my SR the pic and he said no problem.

It's included in my RH and I saw / tasted the cakes at a recent tasting. They were GORGEOUS and tasted delicious. They use a phenomenal baker and we can choose almost any design we want - they'll even make it custom if we bring a picture. With that good of a deal, I can't justify spending $$ on an outside cake.

I'm sure you can always 'upgrade' your cake with the in house baker. You'd have to pay a little extra but you wouldn't have to buy a whole cake from an outside vendor and many halls also charge a cake cutting fee for outside bakers. Another hidden cost.

I'm totally in the same boat as you.... we have a local bakery we love, and cake is important to us... so we did pay for the cake. It was about $550 for fondant

however, we had no constraints on design or cost, and got the exact cake we were eyeing for years...

Update- I went to my favorite bakery yesterday and met with the owner who was absolutely amazing! He can do the exact cake I want and can even get the cake topper and he had great suggestions on some additions and changes to make the cake more fall looking since we are getting married in October. His price was amazing- now I have to decide between carrot cake or or chocolate cake with strawberry mouse- so FH and I will be eating one of each this weekend- geez wedding planning is so hard
