I'm not, as we're trying to keep costs down and so that was one of the first things to go. But I'm considering buying a camera closer to the wedding and just having a very informal video taken by us or friends.

Re: Anyone not getting a video?

Originally, we weren't going to because I had this vision in my head of the videographer at my brother's wedding with the bright lights, shoving a mic in my face (I was only 18!) and asking me if I had anything to say to my brother and SIL. However, after viewing a few high-end video sites, I decided (and eventually convinced FH) that it was a good idea. I'm sure we'll have a great photographer, but it would also be nice to have his grandparents, who are getting older, on the video.

We're not. I think it was of least importance to us.

I'm not. I plan on asking a friend who does some part time video work to film the ceremony and some highlights from the reception.

I am definately getting a Video. So many times brides say that the day just went by and because of all the stress and everything they don't remember much of it. A video is a great way to remember. I have watched videos with Brides that were so excited to see what REALLY happened at the wedding!

I would definately recommend having a video. A video captures the 'feeling' of the party... pictures don't do that.

we're still on the fence about it..we have a lot of older guests and my grandmother passed away 7 days after my cousins wedding and we were all able to watch her dance and celebrate with the family after she passed away on her video so that was wonderful but then i think about the lights and the mic in everyone's face and i hate that at a wedding. so like i said..we're still debating.

At first we weren't going to get a video because we were thinking it was a waste and who actually watches their video more then once. But after talking to past brides that didn't get one they were really upset about it. Like the above person said the day flies by and you miss things that you would see on the video. I know places that will take video without any editing for around $900.

ETA: There are so many videographers now that use handheld digital cameras with low lighting. Also you can request no table interviews and stuff like that. But there are still videographers out there that have the big black cameras with the huge light so be sure to ask what kind of equipment they use!

i recommend you get one. You won't remember many parts of that day. DH didn't want one originally and he thanked me for insisting we get one. Even if you have a friend do it... it's DEF. worth it!

We're not. I am not a big fan of a camera in everyone's face. Our plan is that if cash permits we're going to buy a mini-dv cam and pass it throughout my relatives. i'l edit it after the honeymoon. i have the software to do it so why spend all that cash

Thanks- I still plan on having a friend do as well as my father's friend so we will having videotaped. I do want to be able to see the ceremony. Anyone out there have a family member or friend do it but still frustrated they didn't get the professional one?

We are not getting a video because photos are too expensive, plus I would prefer a photojournalist.

Nope. I feel its a waste of money. Everyone I know who has one tells me they never watch it.

And I agree with the camera being in everyone's face. We went to a wedding this past Sunday and everytime the videographer came around, people were running away.

We decided not too - money that could be spent somewhere else. Most people would rather look at your wedding album that monopolize the TV with a Video. Only reason I know this is that I've been married before with a video and it sat and got dusty after the first 10 times I watched it.
