To me, having great photos from my wedding day is really important, so I’m spending a lot to get a great photographer. Now I’m wondering if I should get a videographer too. Anyone skipping it? Any other thoughts?

try rambling rose, they have reasonable prices and you can customize the package...i think on the site it says price starts at $899 for basic
Thanks! I think I’ll check them out—seems like maybe a nice compromise.
Good luck

I'm not having a videographer. Alot of people said I would regret it but honestly I don't think so. My brother is going to record the ceremony for me with my mom's videocamara....at the reception she's just going to have it around in case anyone in my family wants to record anything. I just never felt like I needed one.

We're getting a friend who took film school to take the video. Poor guy has to work while we party :)

videographers don't get in anyone's faces...i never even noticed mine, and i had 2!
i wouldn't give up my video for anything. i've watched it many times and love love love it. hearing us say our vows, seeing our parent dances, and all our relatives (who won't be around forever!) is priceless.
videographers don't have to do interviews, etc...they CAN just film if you want.
i would strongly reconsider not getting one. it's more priceless to me than my album.
in 30 years, when many of my relatives will be gone, i can see them dancing, smiling and talking to me on tape. priceless...

You all make exceptionally good points…I think I will be going with a videographer, but probably a lower cost one like Rambling Rose (which I’ve actually heard a lot of good things about!). I’m just waiting to hear from my photographer who her recommended videographers are.

Re: Anyone NOT getting a videographer?
While it's true that good videographers are unobtrusive, evn the best videographer will feel intrusive if you are someone who really, really HATES being in front of a video camera. If you don't understand that, then you don't have the same feeling that some of us do about it. We never even had a camcorder growing up and I have being in front of video cameras. I'd never want to watch it b/c I hate seeing myself on film, and I'd be very uncomfortable the whole day knowing it was there...
And one thing I don't get is how so many people have feel the need on this one issue to tell people they really should get one or they'll regret it, etc. To me, it's a personal decision - as are all of our wedding details. It's just not for some people, that's all. And for those of us who really don't want them and wouldn't watch them if we did get them, it's an unnecessary expense as well.
I used to film weddings professionally... and I still don't want one. I get why people do want one - but they aren't for me.
If you're on the fence and can afford it, I'd probably say to get a wedding video... but if you really don't want it, I don't think you're missing out. People should do what makes them comfortable on their day. A videographer would drive me nuts, no matter how unobtrusive he was.

I agree, a videographer is just not me. Heck, I'm even a bit uncomfortable with having a photographer.....I just don't like all the attention. But to each their own

Re: Anyone NOT getting a videographer?
I wasthisclose to skipping it. But then my sister who got married a year ago said she now regrets not getting one. So then i started thinking about getting one. FH and i were researching them and they were going to be a lot of money and all we really wanted was raw footage. But then we ended up winning a free package at a wedding event! So now we have it and are very happy about it! Especially since my grandparents may not be able to make the trip from Ohio. Now we know they can at least watch it on video. But I would def splurge on photos and try not to spend a ton on the video. Photos are def something that will be seen more!

Lucky! Wish I could be as lucky, that would solve the problem for me, lol!

Thanks for your post! It’s not that I’m opposed to a video, I was just trying to think if it was a necessity or not, or if a slideshow of my photographs might be enough. I want something to show all of FH’s family that can’t make it when we have our reception in Sweden. Seems like a basic video package might be a good idea.

IF someone is very uncomfortable in front of a camera then that is different...i think the advice we gave is more towards those who are undecided and want to know maybe a good reason why they should do it or maybe even not do it.
The girls who already got married i think are saying it only because they don't want someone to regret it later on. AGain this is more towards someone who is undecided, rather than someone who completely hates the idea of this.
The comments were more about not wanting another girl to feel regret after the wedding and then wishing she had done it, it was done with good intentions.
Plus the comments were meant for the OP who actually asked if she should get it or not.

Which is fine, but other people still read these threads... so I'm allowed to post my opinions, too.
I don't want a video and I KNOW I won't regret - for the reasons I stated. My reasons very well could be the same reasons others aren't sure if they want one.

i know, what i meant is that don't feel like anybody was saying you were wrong for how you feel and that you would regret it if you are someone who hates the idea of this. The OP asked so although others can read they should also keep in mind that the advice is being given to a woman who is contemplating the though, and usually someone who thinks about it and wonders whether or not they should get it are the ones who would probably regret it later on, not someone dead set against it.
And if other girls also have the same reasons as you they should remember again that this is advice given to somebody who is thinking about getting video.
Regardless if its video or whatever if someone is dead set against it from the beginning then there will be no regrets later
