Anyone not getting the traditional white gown?

Anyone not getting the traditional white gown?

I'm probably going white or off white, nothing crazy. My cousins wife had a light purple dress and my friend had a gold dress and I think one of the girls from the bridezillas show had a red dress! I guess veering away from white is getting more common! I don't know if I like that!

did you know that back in the 1800s it was nontraditional to wear a white dress... on europe people who got married wore jewled tones gowns to show their status ( because that fabric was expensive) it was only when Napolean put an embargo act on all the imported fabric that brides started to wear white ( it was the only fabric people who were not filthy rich could afford!!!)

just a piece of useless info!

wow, I did not know that!! I always thought you were wearing white because you are supposed to be 'pure'. You learn something new everyday!!

i've never considered anythign BUT white! i know i'm probably not the 'purest' of brides but that's one tradition i want to keep.

OH, i saw that bride on the show with the red dress. i couldn't believe she went that route!

i KNOWWW. she *was* trashy!!! as are soooo many of the brides that wind up on that show. but then again, they're either too trashy or too spoiled but i guess that's why i get such a kick out of them!

my dress is ivory...but not over the top ivory..its very suttle, and goes along with the fall color scheme better than white-white

I'm going white. My wedding is in September so I'll be really tan and I love wearing white when I am tan hehe

Ironically, my mom who is SUPER traditional, loved the dresses that had black in them, go figure

Re: Anyone not getting the traditional white gown?

08er crashing! I always thought I'd get a white dress....not a thought entered my mind about getting a different color. While trying on dresses, I wanted to try on a style that they didn't have in pure white in the store so I tried it on and fell in LOVE with the color. I got 'pearl white' which has a light champagne tone to it. Looks AMAZING with my complexion...piece of advise...try on EVERY color you can...you'd be surprised! Good luck!

how cool! i also heard that in asia (china, maybe) brides traditionally wear red, and white is a color of mourning. i think a few members of my family would keel over and die right there on the beach if i wore a red gown, but i did see a few maggie's in that ruby red that were b e a u t i f u l.
