I'm probably going white or off white, nothing crazy. My cousins wife had a light purple dress and my friend had a gold dress and I think one of the girls from the bridezillas show had a red dress! I guess veering away from white is getting more common! I don't know if I like that!

Re: Anyone not getting the traditional white gown?
Posted by beram63 how cool! i also heard that in asia (china, maybe) brides traditionally wear red, and white is a color of mourning. i think a few members of my family would keel over and die right there on the beach if i wore a red gown, but i did see a few maggie's in that ruby red that were b e a u t i f u l.
Yea this is true. White sumbolized purity-it was essentially a way for people to brand their daughters saying LOOK she is pure, a virgin! You are gettign a GREAT deal.
The veil is a similar odd tradition-the veil was originally created out of thicker, more opaque fabric and it was in essence a shroud meant to keep the bride completely concealed from the grooms eyes till the alst possible second-Cue arranged marriages. once a guy is on the altar it would be dishonorable to say HOLY HELL I am NOT marrying THAT THING!
So it was trickery in a way. i have sooo many traditions 'debunked' I put them in our wedding newsletter to amuse our guests.
I wore an ivory dress-looked white but pure white looked AWFUL on me. Too harsh.

My gown is a light ivory, because that is the only color it comes in, but it looks so much like white, you would never know.

Re: Anyone not getting the traditional white gown?
I am wayyy too pale to wear white and I like being a bit different, so I may wear a pale pink shade. My fiance thinks I am nuts, but I figure it is my dress, so I should wear what I like, right?

Re: Anyone not getting the traditional white gown?
OMG, funny you should mention that. Whenever I look at wedding gowns, the only ones that I end up loving are the wedding gowns with gold beeding/crystals. i love the Ivorys, and I think my all time favorite are the Blush wedding dresses. i haven't tried these on yet. But I have a feeling that if/when I do, I will fall in love with it.
