Anyone NOT giving their guests a choice at sit down dinner?

Anyone NOT giving their guests a choice at sit down dinner?

I've decided (since I am having a European style reception) to have a set meal for my guests. Instead of a choice of three....everyone will be served filet mignon (medium) and a crab cake with vegetables. Also, there will be a vegetable garden plate for those who don't eat meat.

Anyone else doing this?

I completely agree with this. I can't stand steak.

i'd choose chicken instead of steak if it's the only option. i think more people would prefer poultry as opposed to red meat.

i agree with the gals above. i only eat meat well done and i don't eat any seafood. so i'd be hungry if i got served that. i think chicken might be a safer option.

i think it's fine, though i do think maybe you should edit your choices a bit. i don't eat meat and i'd personally be starving by the end of the night if all i had was a veggie dish - maybe some pasta? also, since people ^ had problems with the red meat, maybe do a dish that includes a piece of red meat and a piece of chicken (though the crab cake may be doing the same thing as the chicken in this case).

everyone has their prefrence, but i would never do that style...ever... just my opinion... people are picky with what they eat and atleast i feel they should be given a choice... example. my parents have no problem eating red meat- steak/beef but only if they are FORCED too, since they have cholestoral issues... if ur gona go with that theme, id prefer chicken instead! its common

I've been to a wedding that did this but the dish included chicken and steak. I was fine with it because I ate both but I did notice some people had a preference.

i wouldn't mind ... i eat meat (although i would like it well done) i would be willing to compromise what i like for your day and your choices ..
i think it sounds lovely ....

I'm not doing this, but went to a wedding where they did this. I was surprised by how many people were ok w/steak. I think it depends on who your guests are. If you know that the majority will like what you've chosen, and offer an option for those who don't, I think you'll be fine.

Some people will be perfectly fine with that but just keep in mind that there will be others who will not like it. Theres some people who don't care for red meat, as you can tell from this thread. There are many people who don't like seafood. Maybe think of adding a chicken dish.

You have to keep in mind that with so many people it is hard to satisfy everyone and that is why it is good to have more variety. Thats why I am glad that RH has 9 entree choices to choose from, so I don't wanna hear anyone complain to me lol.

i would have a very hard time eating at your wedding. i don't eat red meat or seafood, and a veggie dish just doesn't cut it as a dinner option with nothing else.

although i understand you want a 'european' reception, you don't want unhappy guests and may want to offer choices.

The only thing I wouldn't like about that is that I like my steak really rare... but I realize that food at a wedding is NOT the same as food at a restaurant. I went to one wedding (my cousin's) that did this. The entree was surf 'n turf, so it was filet mignon and grilled shrimp. No one complained, and the food was delicious.

I'm assuming there are other courses before the entree -- is there a pasta course or anything like that before the entree? This way people who don't like the entree choice will have more to eat...

If you know your guests well enought hen it can work, but personally I wouldn't want risk it. I guess thats just because I myself ama very picky eater, and like to have options, even though sometimes its still hard to find something I like.

But if you do it this way, I definately agree with some of the posters above about the red meat thing (I love steak, but I know a bunch of people who don't) and I'd add a pasta dish instead of a veggie platter for the people who do not eat meat, or just do not like steak.

And just out of couriosity, why is this considered a European reception? I've been to a few European weddings (along with other events) and have never seen this.

That isn't a good idea/imo.

a lot of people are VERY allergic to shellfish, and if you put a crabcake on my plate, I wouldnt be able to touch ANYTHING on the plate.

I would rather have a choice.

I went to a wedding where it was prime rib and chicken on the same plate - the prime rib was very rare (yuck) and the chicken was still on the bone (double yuck).

My opinion is do what you want to do. Your paying for it, people will make do. I've been to vegan and Indian weddings. My FH and I made do with what was there and we were fine even though we never ate that food before. Those meals were very different then what you would have at a traditional wedding, but the food you are offering is not. Not to mention, there is always so much food at weddings that I have never left starving.

My SIL did this at her wedding too and about 2/3rd of the people didn't eat because they didn't like the food. In fact, she had the same menu you are having.

People are picky about their food and like to have a choice, if you can spare it, I'd do a chicken dish or something.
