ANyone NOT having a reception at a Hall??

Hey its me again!

I am looking at places to have my reception...are any of you doing it yourself?

My dad is a part of the Moose Lodge (its like the Elks) and they will let you use the room for no charge..and you have to use their liquor, (its premium stuff) and that is only $10 per head...the room is a decent size, and has a nice dance floor and a nice spot for the DJ to set up....

My biggest problem is they do not let you take the pictures of the members and stuff off the walls, so I was thinking maybe I can get some white fabric or somethig and Cover the walls up so we do not have to see the smiling MOose members,,or maybe there is some way we can pitch a tent in there....then we would definitely get our own caterer and stuff like that.....

Its something to consider, and that way we can definitely have it on a Sat night like we want....

Opinions or tips or ideas on how to cover the walls...would be appreicated..

Thanks in Advance!!!

don't have any wall covering ideas but just wanted to say that sometimes having a reception elsewhere can be pricey. table and chair rentals, dinner and glassware, caterers all have to be considered. i guess it depends on what you are willing to give up. fi suggested the same idea but i found out that i'd have to give up some of the elegance that i wanted cause it would cost. i decided to search out a hall that would be affordable and have the feel i desired. good luck!

Theres lots of things you could do to cover the Moose people. Big satin bows, bouquets of cascading greens, draping fabric , tooling ect. you can make it work.

I would cost it out. You might find that it is actually cheaper and easier to have it in a hall, because you don't have to worry about all the rentals and decorations. Sometimes it's actually more expensive to have it outside of a hall.

i agree with everyone else - more often than not 'non-traditional' translates into more expensive. you have to rent everything - down to the plates, silverware, chairs, chair covers, etc. the list is endless!!

I forgot to mention that the tables (10 seats round) and chairs are included!! I did forget about the silverware rentals, and fabric tablecloths...but I will definitely price it out...I am thinking my Aunt is doing my flowers for me, so that will not need to be factored in, which is Great....I guess I have to start by making a list of what I need...my parents have a huge helium tank, so thats another thing to cross off....

Im having my recpetion at the Knights of Columbus in Bay Shore- I dont know how far away you live but they are very reasonable(30 pp) and you can chose from different packages- all include top shelf liquor, champagne toast, 3 tiered cake, floral arrangements on tables, maitre d, table clothes and napkins, chinawarea and silverware- i have noticed that renting a hall can cost you more when everything is added up- GOOD LUCK
