Anyone not leaving for HM right away?

Anyone not leaving for HM right away?

My FH and I have been talking about the HM for WEEKS and cannot decide on how long to stay, where to stay, etc. I think this week I finally narrowed it down - flights, hotels (we would be staying in 3 different ones), etc. And then FH tells me he wants to be on the trip for his bday, which is 2 weeks after our wedding - and since we do not have the money to go on a 2 week honeymoon, we'd have to wait a week in order to be away for his bday. I think I actually kinda like this idea, since a) the dog wouldn't be in the kennel for as long (we;d put her there the wknd of the wedding and then pick her and bring her back 5 days later, which makes me feel a little better) and b) we'd have time to relax, pack, etc after the wedding. We are going to Alaska and it takes 14 hours to get there with layovers, so bing able to sleep after the hub-bub of the wedding so that we are relaxed and well-rested for the flight and trip is important.

I don't like the idea of having to go to work right after my wedding (I would take mon off, but work tues-fri most likely since I don't have a ton of extra time besides what I need for the HM).

Is anyone else doing this? How do you feel about it?

We are teachers so we have off the whole summer....but we are leaving the sunday after the wedding..>Exactly a week...Which is great because it gives up time to 'clean' up so we are not walking back into a huge mess...

We are going to spean two weeks in Alaska and I cannot wait to be away for that long....

You are going to alaska too???? I think we may be the only ones going on northern HMs! Are you going on a cruise? We are going to fairbanks and hopefully going snowmobiling, dog sledding, taking a trip to the arctic circle, etc... can't wait!

i didn't. We did take a week off after the wedding though...to do absolutely nothing. That was probably the best choice ever.

Honestly, I would have been even more stressed if I knew I had to worry about flying out for the honeymoon the day after. The way we were the days before the wedding, we wouldn't even have had time to pack!!!!

We're going in May to Alaska too!! We're going to try to do the Holland America cruisetour! we're SOOO excited!

i am not taking a official honeymoon until the summer because we can't afford one right away. We are taking off a week after the wedding and just going away for two nights.

we arent taking a honeymoon for like 3 months after the wedding...FH owns a landscaping business and he cant take one day off....obviously hes taking the day off that we get married, and we might go to montauk for a day or two. But we go away to the caribbean every january...so its really not a big deal to me. I already took off a week from work so i could have a few days off before and after the wedding.

I am glad to see that I am not the only one doing this! I really like the idea of leaving right away - just becayse, I think, that is what almost everyone does and it is just 'normal' - but I also like the idea of relaxing a bit. And I am so glad some of you are also going to alaska! People thought I was nuts when I told them - even Travel Tom! Jen, you will have to tell me how your cruise is!!!

as of right now we're not going anywhere right away but since our wedding is on a sunday we're taking that whole following week off of work to get fh moved in and settled if we get a good amount of $$ from the wedding, we're planning on hopping on plane that friday to miami & key west or pr for a couple of days. nothing to expensive but just to get away.

we're leaving 3 weeks later because we want to hang out with my family and some of our guests that are coming from overseas! And this way we're happy that all the fun will not end so soon

We left the day after, but alot later in the day, and we were still exhausted! It took a couple days just to catch up on some sleep! .. so I think leaving a week later would be perfect!

I think I take the record!!! My wedding is March 9th......and my honeymoon is June 6th!!!

For 2 reasons....1 we are going on a Mediterranean Cruise and we wanted it to be warm when we go.....and 2....I didnt want to take all my vacation time from work at the beginning of the year (March) and then have nothing left over to nothing to look forward to for the rest of the year, you know what I mean?

Thanks for your reply .. this kinda vaidates what I have been thinking. I feel like my mom is going to think it's dumb, and that's making me think it IS dumb. But I appreciate all of your responses and you are making me feel better about it!

at some point I will! but she will get over it, i mentioned it weeks ago when we were considering for other reasons (thought we'd have a better chance at snow a few weeks later ... not really the case) so it won't be a completely new idea. thanks again.

Re: Anyone not leaving for HM right away?

We're going away a month after the wedding. I work at a college and teach classes, so I can't take off as the semester is ending. FH works in the food business, so he can't take off from the 22nd til the 1st.

I'm fine waiting for the HM. It gives us time to relax and take care of loose ends, maybe thank you cards, and such. Plus gives us something to look foward too.

Re: Anyone not leaving for HM right away?

I am leaving the very next day BUT i have to say that I'm doing this because I have to, not because I want to! FH and I really wanted to take a 2 week trip, since my line of work is unlikely to allow me that kind of trip again anytime in the near future. But, since we wanted those 2 weeks, they literally had to begin the day after the wedding! If I could've I totally would've taken at least 3 days to chill out after the wedding. I say go for it - I think it's a great idea!
