Anyone not leaving for HM right away?

Original post by TrueLoveIn2008

My FH and I have been talking about the HM for WEEKS and cannot decide on how long to stay, where to stay, etc. I think this week I finally narrowed it down - flights, hotels (we would be staying in 3 different ones), etc. And then FH tells me he wants to be on the trip for his bday, which is 2 weeks after our wedding - and since we do not have the money to go on a 2 week honeymoon, we'd have to wait a week in order to be away for his bday. I think I actually kinda like this idea, since a) the dog wouldn't be in the kennel for as long (we;d put her there the wknd of the wedding and then pick her and bring her back 5 days later, which makes me feel a little better) and b) we'd have time to relax, pack, etc after the wedding. We are going to Alaska and it takes 14 hours to get there with layovers, so bing able to sleep after the hub-bub of the wedding so that we are relaxed and well-rested for the flight and trip is important.

I don't like the idea of having to go to work right after my wedding (I would take mon off, but work tues-fri most likely since I don't have a ton of extra time besides what I need for the HM).

Is anyone else doing this? How do you feel about it?

we are having a lot of guests coming from Poland, Canada and florida, and most of them are leaving on 5/5 so we are planning to leave for HM 5/9 which is about 3 weeks after the wedding -
I think its fine :)
I cant wait

i am a teacher so it did not present a problem for me...but my FH is not...we are going a day after the wedding...but he kinda has to watch any days he takes off from not til then b/c he will need at least 2 weeks off between wedding and HM...Alaska sounds incredible though

We are not planning our HM right away. We decided that since FH might be changing jobs this year we don't wast to plan a trip and then have to cancel it, if we don't plan it at all we won't be dissapointed. Also, it gives us time to save up more $ so we can go on a nicer, longer trip. We definitely want to go within a year of the wedding.

We are getting married 9/27 and looking to HM in November. We made this decision because of 'hurricane season' and where we are planning on going. I am thinking of taking off work from the Thursday before wedding until the following Thursday. FH wants us to take a trip to the Seneca Lake wineries for a mini getaway after the actual wedding.

FH and I are not going on our honeymoon until 8 months after the wedding. I am a teacher so the wedding falls on one of our weeks off. We planned it for December so it gives us a chance to save up some more money...we'r pretty much doing everything ourselves money wise.

we are leaving a few hours after the wedding! yes thats right 5am the next morning I am going to be at an airport. And we are absolutely crazy for it!!!! It will be really stressful but its a cruise so I couldn't delay it a day or two! it will be fun though. and since I'm an insomniac I wont be sleeping anyway!

I am not waiting a week but I think that considering your circumstances, it sounds like a really good idea. It will give you some time to open up gifts too, which will be nice. Also- the part I am looking most forward to is going to a clothing store and saying 'excuse me, do you have this in blank size for my husband?' haha and if you don't go away so fast, you can do that sooner

WE are having a lot of trouble with this too. I am a teacher and we are getting married Dec 19. I am not sure I want to go away on my hm Christmas week becasue the prices are so high and the air traffic is out of control. So we where thinking of just driving somewhere for a couple of days and then taking a honeymoon a little more down the line. One idea was driving down to FLorida and staying at the south seas plantation on Captiva Island for a couple of days. We are also really confused because we might be living in North Carolina then too..
